    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for observing a medical radiation image, wherein a computer automatically calculates the window level and the width optimal for an observation area only by a simple operation of a single click on a point within the area, when observing a data area larger or smaller than the displayed window level/width range in the observation of the medical rediation image.
      SOLUTION: A histogram is generated using smoothed data, and is subjected to weighting treatment with distance elements and is smoothed. The window level is determined by (an average of density of a local area plus the density of a clicked point) divided by 2. Because the histogram of the local area becomes more discontinuous when a pixel value of the clicked point is especially high or low within the area, the histogram is corrected by means of a feature value of mean square of difference. The correction is also carried out by means of standard deviation of a Poisson distribution. When the local area is located at a border between two areas whose data averages differ greatly, the window width is determined by adding a value that is twice as much as standard deviation of a Gaussian distribution to a difference between the maximum value and the minimum value near the clicked point. By doing so, the window level/width optimal for the local area is calculated without complicated operations.
