    • A system for handling two liquid streams comprises an hydraulic circuit including a pair of receptacles each provided with movable partition means dividing it into first and second chambers. Rod means extending through a first chamber of each receptacle connects the partition means and is effective to cause reciprocation of one partition means to be repeated by the other so that as the first chamber of one receptacle is expanded, the first chamber of the other receptacle is contracted. A quantity of the first liquid is delivered alternately to the first and second chambers of one receptacle as those chambers expand. As those chambers contract first liquid is passed through conduit means from the first and second chambers of said one receptacle to the first and second chambers, respectively, of said other receptacle. A source of second liquid is connected to said conduit means and liquid removal means is connected to said circuit to remove liquid from said circuit in quantities equal to the quantity of second liquid admitted to the circuit.

    • Apparatus for accurately proportioning and mixing fluids comprising a double acting piston/cylinder unit of which the cylinder is divided into two chambers by the piston and the volume of the cylinder swept by the piston at one end of the piston is lesser than that at the other end. An inlet connection for a first fluid is made to one chamber, a conduit connects the two chambers and includes a connection to a source of the second fluid. Valve means are associated with the conduits and are effective to cause a charge of first fluid to be delivered to said one chamber and thereafter to be transferred to the other chamber drawing fluid from said source of second fluid to make up for the difference in the volumes of the chambers. Said valve means then cooperate to cause the mixed fluids to be discharged from the other chamber as said one chamber is again charged with said first fluid. In a variant of the invention the piston/cylinder unit is replaced by a receptacle within which is disposed a diaphragm the diaphragm serving to divide the receptacle into two chambers. In other variants means are provided for varying the ratio of first to second fluid in the mixture and in still other variants the second fluid is made up of components of two or more fluids the ratios of those components being adjustable.

    • A valveless, variable displacement, reversible, fixed dead volume metering pump formed with a cylinder having ports through which to pump fluid. A rotatable piston is in the cylinder with a duct thereon communicable with the ports to transfer fluid to and from the cylinder. A drive coupling is provided for the piston. The piston reciprocates in the cylinder while rotating in a timed relation with respect to the ports and the timed relationship is reversible. The relative angularity between the axis of the piston and the axis of the drive coupling is reversible to obtain reversal of fluid flow with the degree of relative angularity determining the volume of fluid being pumped. A substantially constant dead-volume is maintained throughout the range of relative angularity between the axes through the use of a pair of floating swivel axes with a cam to restrict one or both of the axes and free the other depending upon direction of relative angular movement of the axis of the piston with respect to the axis of the drive coupling.

    • There is disclosed a valveless positive displacement pump having a cylinder with a piston reciprocal and rotatable therein and dividing the cylinder into two working chambers. Inlet and outlet ports communicate with the working chambers and the piston has ducts at each end which are sequentially brought into register with the ports as the piston reciprocates and rotates in the cylinder to produce a pumping action in each chamber. A piston rod is secured to the piston and extends from one end of the piston through one of the working chambers to the outside of the cylinder and is connected to a drive mechanism. In certain embodiments of the invention illustrated, means are provided to equalize the output from the two chambers and in other embodiments the fact that the effective volumes of the chambers are unequal is utilized to achieve proportional joining, mixing or separation of fluids handled by the pump.
