    • In a recording/reproducing apparatus and a reproducing apparatus based on a helical scan system for recording or reproducing a video signal and an audio signal on or from a magnetic tape (8) by use of a magnetic head assembly (2-7) mounted on a rotary drum (1), the recording/reproduction of an audio signal in both a standard play mode with a tape speed equal to a standard speed and a long play mode or N-ple play mode with a tape speed N times (N: an integer not smaller than 4) as high as the standard speed is performed by a common audio head (6, 7). At the time of reproduction in the N-ple play mode, the optimum tracking control is performed by a tracking control system (42) by use of an output of the audio head (6, 7). At the time of completion of recording in the N-ple play mode, a video signal is supplied with a time prolonged corresponding to the delay of scan of a video head (4, 5) from that of the audio head (6, 7) so that a video track is surely overwritten on an audio track. A high-speed fast feed/rewind speed at the time of N-ple play mode is set to a low value as compared with the tape speed at the time of standard play mode, thereby ensuring the detection of an index signal from the magnetic tape (8) in the N-ple play mode.

    • A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus of a cassette type has a first and a second recording mode converting a luminance signal of a video signal into an FM luminance signal having a first and a second carrier frequency and recording the FM luminance signal on a magnetic tape respectively. When the FM luminance signal is to be recorded according to the second recording mode, a magnetic tape having an excellent short wavelength recording characteristic is used for recording. A cassette (124) containing this magnetic tape is provided with a configurational feature on its upper or lower half, and a detector (121) for detecting this feature is disposed in the apparatus. When the detector detects that a magnetic tape is adapted for recording according to the first recording mode, the FM luminance signal is recorded according to the first recording made, but when the detector detects that the magnetic tape is adapted for recording according to the second recording mode, the user can select either the first recording mode or the second recording mode as desired. A discriminating circuit (12) is disposed in the reproducing system to discriminate as to whether the FM luminance signal was recorded according to the first recording mode or the second recording mode, and, on the basis of the result of discrimination by the discriminating circuit, the reproduced FM luminance signal is automatically processed in a processing circuit (11) with a processing characteristic corresponding to the recording mode.

      a camera portion having an A/D converter for converting a signal from an image sensor into a digital signal and a first digital processor for receiving an output of said A/D converter and for digitally processing thereof;
      a VTR portion of a helical scan type mounting at least two or more of magnetic heads for recording/reproducing a FM modulated luminance signal and a low band converted chrominance signal;
      a second digital processor for processing an video signal of the VTR; and
      a switching circuit provided in a preceding stage of said A/D converter, whereby the signal from said image sensor, an external video signal and a reproduced signal from said magnetic heads are exchanged, the output of said A/D converter is inputted to said second digital processor, and a sampling clock of said A/D converter is exchanged to most profitable clock for the signal from said image sensor, the external video signal and the reproduced signal from the magnetic heads, respectively.

    • In a video tape recorder of the two-head helical scan system, a wrap angle of a magnetic tape (7) around a rotary head mechanism is set to more than 180°, e.g. about 220°, and an overlap recording section is provided in a recording track. A time compressed audio signal and a pilot signal for the tracking control are recorded in the overlap recording section. A frequency modulated luminance signal, low-frequency converted carrier color signal, frequency modulated audio signal, and pilot signal are mixed, and this mixed signal is recorded in another section of the recording track. Regulator means (34; 264, 271; 340) is provided to conjointly set the recording current levels of the low-frequency converted carrier color signal, frequency modulated audio signal, and pilot signal which are mixed to the frequency modulated luminance signal and recorded. The recording current levels of the time compressed audio signal and the frequency modulated luminance signal are respectively and individually set. When different kinds of magnetic tapes (e.g. metal powder tape and metal evaporated tape) are used, a level switching circuit (352) is provided to switch the recording level of the signal of which the low-frequency converted carrier color signal, frequency modulated audio signal and pilot signal were mixed in accordance with the kinds of tapes.
