    • The invention provides cyclonic separating apparatus (100) for separating particles from a dirt-laden airflow comprising a cyclone (102) for separating and collecting dirt and dust from the dirt-laden airflow. The cyclone (102) has an air inlet (110), an air outlet (126), a longitudinal axis (X-X) and a wall (104). The wall (104) comprises a first portion (106) and a second portion (108) spaced further from the longitudinal axis (X-X) than the first portion (106), the first and second portions (106, 108) being axially spaced along the longitudinal axis (X-X). The cyclone (102) further comprises at least one lip (114) extending from the first portion (106) of the wall (104) into a portion of the cyclone (102) surrounded by the second portion (108) of the wall (104). By providing a cyclone (102) with a wall (104) having two portions (106, 108) of different sizes and a lip (114) extending from the portion (106) with the smaller size into the portion (108) with the larger size, the risk of blockages due to re-entrainment and movement of dirt and dust within the cyclonic separating apparatus (100) is reduced.

    • There is provided cyclonic separating apparatus (100) comprising a chamber (112) for separating dirt and dust from an airflow, an inlet (110) to the chamber (112) and a shroud (200). The shroud (200) comprises a wall (200) having a multiplicity of through-holes (208) forming an outlet from the chamber (112), each through-hole (208) having a width and a height, wherein the through-holes (208) have substantially rectangular cross-sections with width to height ratios in the range of 1.5:1 to 1:1.5. The rectangular cross section of the through-holes (208) maximises the available through-hole (208) area in the shroud (200). This results in a low pressure drop across the shroud (200) and reduces the amount of material required for manufacture. Further, this ratio allows the cross-sectional area of the through-holes (208) to be dimensioned to prevent larger particles of dirt and dust from passing through the through-holes (208) in the shroud (200), whilst still providing the required structural integrity.

    • The invention provides cyclonic separating apparatus (100) comprising a chamber (112) for separating dirt and dust from an airflow, an inlet (110) to the chamber (112) and a shroud (200). The shroud (200) comprises a wall (202) having an inner surface (206), an outer surface (204) and a multiplicity of through-holes (208) forming an outlet from the chamber (112). Each through-hole (208) has an axis (Z 1 -Z 1 , Z 2 -Z 2 , Z 3 -Z 3 , Z 4 -Z 4 ). The inner surface (206) of the wall (202) has a serrated profile comprising a plurality of serrations (210) arranged around at least a part of the circumference of the wall (202), each serration having a first face (212) and a second face (214). At least one through- hole (208) passes through the first face (212) of at least one serration (210). By providing a plurality of serrations (210) around the inner circumference of the wall (202), the airflow is forced to follow a longer path through each through-hole (208) for when compared to conventional arrangements. This reduces the amount of dirt and dust which is able to pass through the shroud (200).
