摘要： The invention relates to a method and system for characterising recipients into recipient categories on the basis of responses to questions provided to users. The characterisation is based on rankings that are assigned to the questions, recipient categories, links between the questions and links between the questions and recipient categories. In one embodiment the ranking of a given recipient category is calculated on the basis of rankings of another recipient category having a link to the given recipient category, together with the ranking of the link between the recipient categories. The links between questions and recipient categories indicate a particular response, by the respondent, in respect of questions. The recipients are characterised with respect to the recipient categories on the basis of the rankings assigned to the recipient categories.

摘要： Embodiments of the invention relate to a method and system for ranking search results and can be conveniently associated with the provision of search results when the delivery of data corresponding to the search results is metered, such as when data are delivered to terminals connected to mobile networks. In one arrangement embodiments of the invention provide a method of generating a search results list in response to a search request comprising one or more search terms. The search terms are held in a storage system that is arranged to store a plurality of search listings; one or more said search terms; and a bid amount, each search listing being associated with a network location providing access to a set of data. The method comprises: receiving a search request; accessing the storage system so as to identify search listings having search terms generating a match with the received search request; retrieving data indicative of a first bid amount and a network location corresponding to the or each matched search term, the network location providing access to a set of data corresponding to the matched search term; generating a second bid amount in dependence on the first bid amount and an amount of data associated with the set of data accessible via the network location; ordering the identified search listings into a search results list in accordance with values corresponding to respective second bid amounts for the identified search listings; and outputting data indicative of the ordered search result list, said outputted data comprising a plurality of selectable links, each corresponding to a said network location.

摘要： Embodiments of the invention are concerned with a method and a system for scheduling the transmission of messages to a subscriber in a communications network on basis of communications events that are determined to have occurred from communications events generated by the communications network. The method includes identifying a communications event as one of a plurality of predetermined types of communications events on the basis of at least one said identified current or previous communications session, and, responsive to the identified communications event, triggering a scheduling process for scheduling transmission of a message to the subscriber, in which the scheduling process is dependent on the type of communications event. Thus in embodiments of the invention, the transmission of messages is determined on the basis of communications events associated with the subscriber; typical communications events include making calls, sending messages, switching off, switching on, roaming, cell to cell handover, answering calls, and trends relating thereto. The method can include reviewing call detail records so as to identify likely actions and availability of the subscriber, and using this information to ensure that messages are received by a subscriber at a time that is convenient to their actions and availability.
