    • Fuel compositions comprise a hydrocarbonaceous fuel and an amount, sufficient to provide detergency and dispersancy, of an additive of molecular weight 450 to 10,000 and represented by the formula where U is C2- 6 alkylene, R is a hydrocarbon radical substantially free from aromatic unsaturation, having on average at least one branch per 6 carbon atoms along the chain and having a molecular weight of 400 to 5000, a is 0 to 10, b is 0 or 1, a+2b is 1 to 10 and c is 1 to 5. The additives may be reaction products of halogenated, e.g. chlorinated or brominated, polymers of C3- 6 olefins or copolymers thereof with ethylene, and alkylene polyamines. The products may be added to gasoline fuels, optionally as a concentrate in solvents such as benzene, toluene, xylene, isopropanol, isobutyl, carbinol and n-butanol; if desired, together with conventional additives such as anti-knock agents, e.g. tetramethyl lead or tetraethyl lead; lead scavengers, e.g. dichlorobenzene and ethylene dibromide; and nonvolatile light mineral lubricating oils. Examples describe the addition to solvent refined, neutral gasolines of additives prepared by reacting chlorinated polyisobutylene with (1, 2 and 5) ethylene diamine, and (4) tetraethylene pentamine, and chlorinated polypropylene, with (3) ethylene diamine.ALSO:Additives for hydrocarbonaceous fuels comprise compounds of molecular weight 450 to 10,000 and represented by the formula where U is C2- 6 alkylene, R is a hydrocarbon radical substantially free from aromatic unsaturation, having an average at least one branch per 6 carbon atoms along the chain and having a molecular weight of 400 to 5,000, a is 0 to 10, b is 0 or 1, a + 2b is 1 to 10 and c is 1 to 5. The radical R may be derived from a polymer of a C3- 6 olefin, particularly isobutylene or propylene, or a copolymer thereof with ethylene. The compounds may be prepared by halogenating a polyolefin in the presence of a peroxy compound, azo compound, bromine, iodine, ferric chloride or light, and reacting the halogenated polymer with an alkylene polyamine. Many suitable reactants are specified, and in examples polyisobutylene is (A) chlorinated with chlorine and (B) brominated with N-bromosuccinimide in carbon tetrachloride; and fuel additives are prepared by reacting chlorinated polyisobutylene with (1, 2 and 5) ethylene diamine and (4) tetraethylene pentamine, and chlorinated polypropylene with (3) ethylene diamine.
