摘要： The invention relates to a hydrophilic film formed on a substrate. This film has a hydrophilic outermost layer having a matrix phase containing titania and a disperse phase constituted of at least one compound of silica and alumina. The matrix phase may further contain an amorphous metal oxide. With this, the outermost layer becomes superior in abrasion resistance. The at least one compound of the disperse phase may be a non-spherical colloidal silica. With this, the outermost layer becomes substantially improved in scratch resistance. The outermost layer is formed on the substrate by a method including sequential steps of (a) providing a sol mixture including a first sol containing a precursor of the titania and a second sol containing the at least one compound; (b) coating the substrate with the sol mixture, thereby to form thereon a precursory film; and (c) baking the precursory film into the outermost layer.

摘要： The invention relates to a hydrophilic article having (a) a substrate; (b) a first layer formed on the substrate; and (c) a second layer formed on the first substrate. The first layer contains (1) an amorphous silica and (2) at least one first amorphous metal oxide selected from titania and alumina. The second layer has (1) a matrix phase constituted of a crystalline titania and at least one second amorphous metal oxide and (2) a dispersed phase constituted of ultrafine particles made of at least one material selected from silica and alumina. The hydrophilic article is excellent in durability, since the second layer is superior in adhesion to the first layer. The hydrophilic article can be produced by a method including steps of (a) providing a first solution containing a precursor of the amorphous silica and a precursor of the at least one first amorphous metal oxide; (b) applying the first solution to the substrate, thereby to form a first precursory layer; (c) providing a second solution containing a precursor of the crystalline titania, the ultrafine particles, and a precursor of the at least one second amorphous metal oxide; (d) applying the second solution to the first precursory layer, thereby to form a second precursory layer; and (e) baking the first and second precursory layers into the first and second layers.

摘要： A photocatalytic article has (a) a soda-lime glass substrate; (b) a first layer formed on the substrate; and (c) a second layer formed on the first layer comprising titania. The first layer contains a silica and at least one metal or alumina. The at least one metal is selected from the group consisting of titanium and metals each having an electronegativity close to that of titanium eg Zr,Al,V,Cv,Mn,Zn, or Sc. The photocatalytic article is excellent in durability, since the second layer is superior in adhesion to the first layer. The first layer is produced by decomposing a solution containing either a precursor of silica and a compound of at least one of said metals or a solution containing a precursor of silica and a precursor of alumina. The second layer is produced by applying a solution containing titania and/or a precursor of titania. The second layer may contain a further oxide selected from SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , P 2 O 5 , B 3 O 3 , ZrO 2 , SnO 2 or Ta 2 O 5 .

SOLUTION: A hydrophilic film forming base material is constituted by forming a film containing fine particles of silica and/or alumina, titania and amorphous metal oxide on a substrate and a wt. ratio of silicon and/or aluminum to titanium is 0.2-1.7 in the film and 1.5-3 on the surface thereof. One method for producing the hydrophilic film forming base material is as follows. A soln. containing a sol forming titania by baking, a sol forming amorphous metal oxide and fine particles of silica and/or alumina and characterized by that the compsn. of metal oxide after the baking of the soln. consists of 45-85 wt.% of titania, 5-20 wt.% of amorphous metal oxide and 10-50 wt.% of fine particles of silica and/or alumina is applied to the substrate to be baked at 400-850 deg.C.
