    • An actively Q-switched laser based on UV illumination mitigates pyroelectric effects in lithium niobate. An exemplary embodiment comprises a pump source; a dichroic mirror having one end optically facing said pump source; a gain medium optically facing another end of said dichroic mirror; a polarizer having one end optically facing another end of said gain medium; a quarter wave plate having one end optically facing another end of said polarizer; and a electro-optic crystal having one end optically facing said quarter wave plate, at least one side of said electro-optic crystal being electrically connected to Q-switch driver to have the crystal function as a Q-switch. A UV illumination source illuminates a side surface of said electrical-optic crystal with UV light. An output mirror receives an output from said Q-switch and produces a laser emission.

    • An arrow that is easily assembled and exhibits improved concentricity between the arrowhead and the arrow shaft includes a hollow arrow shaft, an arrowhead having a tip and a cylindrical shank, and a bushing having a cylindrical section and a tapered section, wherein the cylindrical section of the bushing is received in an end of the hollow arrow shaft and secured to the hollow arrow shaft with an adhesive. The tapered section has a bore in which the shank portion of the arrowhead is received, and the shank portion of the arrowhead is secured within the bore using an adhesive. In accordance with an aspect of the invention, the cylindrical shank portion of the arrowhead has smooth surfaces that engage smooth surfaces of the bore extending through the tapered section of the bushing, whereby the absence of threads and other irregularities on the engaging surfaces between the arrowhead and the bushing improve concentricity among the arrowhead, bushing and arrow shaft.

    • The invention is directed toward a surgical forceps comprising a pair of scissor arms connected together by a pivot where the proximal ends forms a hand grasping surface and the distal ends are provided with jaw members. Each jaw member has a curved inner surface with a plurality of teeth and measurement markings at spaced intervals along an end surface of the first and second jaws. Each jaw member is semi-circular in shape and extends outward from each respective arm at an angle of about 110° so that when said scissor arms are closed together the jaw ends move toward each other. A rachet assembly is mounted on one scissor arm to engage a pawl mounted on the other arm to lock the jaw members in a fixed position.
