摘要： A catheter assembly including a foldable internal bolster. According to one embodiment, the catheter assembly includes a catheter, a first flexible filament and a second flexible filament. The catheter includes a tubular body and a pair of flexible legs. The tubular body is a generally cylindrical member shaped to include a proximal end, a distal end, a longitudinal lumen, a pair of external notches, a first bore extending from the proximal end to one of the notches, and a second bore extending from the proximal end to the other of the notches. Each of the flexible legs has a fixed end and a free end, the fixed end being integrally formed on the distal end of the tubular body. One end of the first filament is fixed to one of the flexible legs, and the opposite end of the first filament is slidably inserted up through the first bore. One end of the second filament is fixed to the other of the flexible legs, and the opposite end of the second filament is slidably inserted up through the second bore. Consequently, by pulling the filaments up through their respective bores, the free ends of the legs may be drawn towards the tubular body to form a pair of loops suitable for use as an internal bolster.

摘要： A medical device assembly including a protective sheath. According to one embodiment, the assembly includes a pull-type catheter implanting subassembly and a protective sheath subassembly. The catheter implanting subassembly includes a gastrostomy feeding tube having a trailing end and a leading end. An internal bolster is disposed at the trailing end of the tube, and a fitting, which has a front end that serves as a dilator, is disposed at the leading end of the tube. A wire loop, which may be tied to a suture, is fixed to the front end of the fitting. The protective sheath subassembly includes a protective sheath and a retaining member. The sheath is an elongated member having an open proximal end, a generally conical distal end and a longitudinal lumen. The sheath is dimensioned to receive substantially all of the catheter implanting subassembly, except for the wire loop, which extends through an aperture in the distal end of the sheath. One or more weakened areas are provided on the distal end of the sheath and are designed to tear apart when the internal bolster is pulled through the distal end. The retaining member is fixed to the outside of the sheath and is dimensioned to act as a stop to limit insertion of the sheath into a patient.

摘要： An enteral feeding tube provides a conduit for the flow of liquid nutritional material. Most of the enteral feeding tube that is external to the patient is generally horizontal when the device is positioned in a stoma of a user lying in a prostrate position. A housing surrounds the horizontal portion enteral feeding tube, provides a low profile, aids in holding the enteral feeding tube in place, and protects the enteral feeding tube. The bottom surface of the housing comprises a resilient material that contacts the skin of the patient. The enteral feeding tube comprises a balloon that is positioned in the stomach to retain the device in the stomach. An air conduit extends generally vertically from an upper portion of the housing and through the enteral feeding tube to communicate with the balloon.

摘要： A feeding tube and method for introducing a feeding tube within the gastrointestinal tract of a patient, whereby the feeding tube is introduced by- using a variation of the Ponsky "pull" method of feeding tube placement. The feeding tube (10) comprises an elongate shaft (12) having a distal end and proximal end. The feeding tube also comprises a coupling structure (26) for coupling the feeding tube to a pull wire (22), the coupling structure be proximal of the distal end (16) of the feeding tube shaft. The feeding tube further comprises a guiding structure (28) for aligning the pull wire with the distal end of the shaft. The feeding tube is introduced within the patient by attaching the previously placed pull wire to the coupling and guiding structures of the feeding tube, and then pulling the pull wire so as to pull the feeding tube into and through the gastrointestinal tract of the patient.
