The energy source (124) generates energy. The balloon (104) is positionable substantially adjacent to the treatment site (106). The balloon (104) has a balloon wall (130) that defines a balloon interior (146). The balloon (104) is configured to retain a balloon fluid (132) within the balloon interior (146). The energy guide (122A) is configured to receive energy from the energy source (124) and guide the energy into the balloon interior (146) so that plasma is formed in the balloon fluid (132) within the balloon interior (146). The tissue identification system (142) is configured to spectroscopically analyze tissue within the treatment site (106). A method for treating a treatment site (106) within or adjacent to a vessel wall (208A) or a heart valve can utilize any of the catheter systems (100) described herein.

The energy guide (122A) is configured to receive energy from the energy source (124) and guide the energy into the balloon interior (146) so that plasma is formed in the balloon fluid (132) within the balloon interior (146). The balloon integrity protection system (142) is operatively coupled to the balloon (104). The balloon integrity protection system (142) is configured to inhibit rupture of the balloon (104) due to the plasma formed in the balloon fluid (132) within the balloon interior (146) during use of the catheter system (100).

摘要： A catheter system (100) for pressure wave and inertial impulse generation for disruption of an intravascular lesion includes a catheter (101) having a balloon (122) coupled to an elongate shaft (102), a first light guide (1202) and a second light guide (1204). The light guides (1202, 1204) are disposed along the elongate shaft (102). The light guides (1202, 1204) can each include a diverting feature (802, 804, 806) in optical communication with at least one light window (706) to direct light to exit each light guide (1202, 1204) toward a side surface portion (722) thereof and toward the balloon (122). A method includes advancing the catheter (101) to a treatment site (1014), expanding the balloon (122) from a collapsed configuration (1002) to a first expanded configuration (1004), and activating a light source (116) in optical communication with each light guide (1202, 1204) to provide sub-millisecond pulses of light to the diverting features (802, 804, 806), thereby inducing plasma formation in a balloon fluid (124), causing rapid bubble (130) formation, and imparting pressure waves (1016) upon the treatment site (1014).

The balloon (122) expands from a collapsed configuration (1002) to a first expanded configuration (1004). The light guide (110) is disposed along the elongate shaft (102) and is in optical communication with a light source (116) and a balloon fluid (124). A first portion (1104) of the light guide (1102) extends into a recess (1106) defined by the elongate shaft (102). A protection structure (1110, 1410, 1510, 1610, 1710, 1810) is disposed within the recess (1106) and is in contact with the first portion (1104) of the light guide (1102). The light source (116) provides pulses of light to the balloon fluid (124), thereby initiating plasma formation and rapid formation of bubbles (1114) within the balloon (122), thereby imparting pressure waves (1016) upon a treatment site (1014). The protection structure (1110, 1410, 1510, 1610, 1710, 1810) can provide structural protection from the pressure waves (1016) to the first portion (1104) of the light guide (1102).

The photoacoustic transducer (100) can include a light-absorbing material and a thermal expansion material.

The fortified balloon inflation fluid (2201) includes a base inflation fluid (2203) and a fortification component (2202). The fortification component (2202) reduces a threshold for inducing plasma formation in the fortified balloon inflation fluid (2201) compared to the base inflation fluid (2203). The fortification component (2202) can include at least one of carbon and iron. The first light guide (2204) is disposed along the elongate shaft (102) and is positioned at least partially within the balloon (122). The first light guide (2204) is in optical communication with a light source (116) and the fortified balloon inflation fluid (2201 ). The light source (116) provides sub-millisecond pulses of a light to the first light guide (2204) so that plasma formation and rapid bubble (130) formation occur in the fortified balloon inflation fluid (2201 ), thereby imparting pressure waves (1016) upon the treatment site (1014).
