    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial production method of β-fluoroalcohols, by which hydrogen pressure can be dramatically decreased in reduction of α-fluoroesters.SOLUTION: The production method of β-fluoroalcohols comprises causing α-fluoroesters to react with hydrogen gas (H) in the presence of a specified ruthenium complex (one represented by general formula [2], in particular, one represented by general formula [4]). In the production method of β-fluoroalcohols, suitable hydrogen pressure of 1 MPa or lower can be employed, which does not require a high-pressure gas production facility for an industrial production. Compared to a base material/catalyst ratio (1,000) in reduction of α-fluoroesters by the prior arts, the method can significantly decrease an amount of use of the catalyst (base material/catalyst ratio of 20,000). By the decrease in the hydrogen pressure and in the amount of use of the catalyst, the production cost of β-fluoroalcohols can be significantly reduced.
