    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-color thermal imaging system which allows to address, at least in part independently, from the same surface of an imaging member to at least two different image forming layers of the imaging member by means of a single thermal print head or a plurality of thermal print heads. SOLUTION: A multi-color thermal imaging method includes: (a) a step which independently addresses a first image forming layer from the surface of the heat imaging member by controlling a temperature of the thermal print head structured as to form the image in the first image forming layer using the thermal print head structured as to form the image in the first image forming layer and an interval when thermal energy is supplied to the first image forming layer, wherein the first image forming layer contains at least two different image forming layers; and (b) a step which independently addresses a second image forming layer of the heat imaging member from the surface of the imaging member by controlling a temperature of the thermal print head structured as to form the image in the second image forming layer using the thermal print head structured as to form the image in the second image forming layer and an interval when thermal energy is supplied to the second image forming layer.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a techniques for stitching images printed with a multi-head printer in a manner that is relatively insensitive to misregistration of image segments. SOLUTION: When a pair of overlapping print heads print a pair of adjacent image segments which come into contact with a stitching area (608), printing at each location in the stitching area (608) is accomplished with the two print heads with weighting (614 and 624) that is determined by the location being printed in the stitching area. For example, the output (634 and 644) of each print head is weighted by a linear function in a horizontal pixel position. A techniques is also disclosed for selecting a screening pattern to be used when stitching is performed with variable-dot printers.
