Multiple-way valves.-In a liquid fuel, gas, or like burner, the fuel supply to the nozzle a and the air, steam, or gas supply to a surrounding nozzle bare controlled by valves c , d geared together or operatively connected within a casing f. The valve d is provided with an inlet port d , outlet ports d' registering with apertures d in a chamber d communicating with the nozzle b , and an outlet port d registering with an aperture in the chamber d leading to the atmosphere, so that, as the fuel and air supplies to the burner are simultaneously diminished, the escape of air to the atmosphere is increased and the consumption of air is maintained constant. Adjustment of the burner does not therefore affect the pressure of the air supply to other burners fed from the same source. The spindles of the valves c , d carry pinions c , d3 which engage a pinion e on a shaft e operable by a hand wheel e . Alternatively, the pinions c , d mesh together and the handwheel is mounted directly on one of the valve spindles.

As shown, the platform consists of a cranked counterweighted tubular steel frame c mounted by pivot pins e in bearing-blocks f bolted to the oven front g. The frame is preferably made in two parts hinged together at the pivot c , and the outer part has supporting legs j, which are made of semi-tubular form, so that when the platform is folded into its inoperative position, as shown in Fig. 2, the legs will fit round the outer part of the frame. The platform proper consists of expanded metal d spot welded to the frame. The side plates of the oven front are made removable to facilitate fitting of the platform, and are formed with stops g' for the counterweights i.

Discharging by tilting container. - A doughmaking machine of the kind comprising a pan rotatably mounted on a wheeled carriage is provided with means on the carriage for tilting the pan about an axis located in front of the pan. The pan 1 mounted on the carriage 2 is supported on rollers and rotated by bevel gear from a, shaft 5. The carriage is provided with brackets 9 supporting a cross shaft 10 on which quadrants 11 are mounted. The quadrants are operated by worm gearing on shafts 22 driven by chain and bevel gear from a hand wheel 16, and are fitted with inwardly projecting rollers 12 which engage between lugs 14, 15 on the pan. The pan is also provided with lugs 27, 28 which engage a block 26.

Lighting devices for ovens. - An electric lamp for lighting a bakers' oven is enclosed in a box detachably fitted into a wall of the oven, the box having a transparent glass or mica window at its inner end and a cover, from which the lamp is supported, at its outer end. In Fig. 1, a cvlindrical liner 1 is secured between the inner and outer shells 3, 4 of the oven wall 5 and supports a removable window 6. The lamp box 7 is secured by bolts 16 in spaced relation to the liner 1 whereby cooling air, admitted and exhausted through slots 20, 21, circulates around the box and between the panes 6, 11. The screws 16 also secure the domed cover 13 which has cooling air inlets and outlets 22. In modifications, the cover is integral with the lamp box, which is inwardly divergent, and the cover is combined with a plug and socket attachment the wiring from which is either enclosed in the cover or passes externally through a tube which may be used as a handle for removing the box.

The Perkins'tubes m , m . m incline downwards to the furnace, and the roof and the innermost floor casing are parallel thereto, while the outermost floor casing is horizontal. When the two chambers f, g of the oven are heated from separate furnaces the dividing- wall between the two contains three spaces for insulating &c. material, the upper and lower being packed with sand and the intermediate one with slag wool.

Fig. 3 shows, in plan, the invention applied to a row of ovens c, the arrangement of the furnaces enabling one stoking space h to serve for two pairs of furnaces.
