    • Disclosed herein is an image taking apparatus including an image taking device, a gain adjustment circuit, and a correction circuit. The image taking device operates with timings based on a frame rate determined in advance and the total number of horizontal lines, has an electronic shutter allowing a shutter speed to be adjusted, receives light in a period equal to the shutter speed of the electronic shutter and carries out an opto-electrical conversion process on the light for every horizontal line in order to generate a predetermined signal. The gain adjustment circuit adjusts the gain of the electrical signal received from the image taking device. The correction circuit compares an image taking video signal with a reference video signal to compute a flicker component as a component oriented in the vertical direction of an image represented by the image taking video signal in a flicker correction process of eliminating flickers.

    • When a server device records a portion of a movie after a client device has started a streaming playback, the client device is allowed to make a special playback of that movie. The server device includes: a video recording processing section for recording a movie and generating movie data, made up of predetermined data units, and management information in which a playback duration and a data size are associated with each other for each unit; a storage medium to store the movie data and management information; a receiving section, which receives a request to get the management information and a request to transmit the data unit from the client device; a request processing section for reading the management information and data unit in response to the requests and instructing their transmission; and a transmitting section for transmitting them. If the request to transmit has been received after the management information was transmitted, the request processing section instructs that at least a piece of the newest management information be transmitted with the unit selected by the request to transmit.

    • An information recording medium for recording main information and auxiliary information is provided. The auxiliary information is recorded on the information recording medium in a manner that edge positions of the pits or the recording marks indicating the main information are shifted either in a phase advancing direction or in a phase delaying direction along the track direction. A predetermined frequency is used to determine whether the edge position is shifted in the phase advancing direction or in the phase delaying direction in order to record the auxiliary information. The predetermined frequency is substantially consistently lower than ½ of a reference frequency of a recording clock for creating the pits or the recording marks and is higher than a response frequency of a PLL for generating a reproduction clock for reproducing the main information.

    • A recording apparatus includes a disc recording unit for recording each video section composing a broadcast program onto a rewritable optical disc; an electronic watermark reading unit for reading electronic watermarks embedded into the video section; and a recording flag storing unit for storing a recording flag. If the read electronic watermarks show that recording is permitted, the recording flag is set as “0” to record the next video section. If the read electronic watermarks show that recording is prohibited, the recording flag is set as “1” not to record the next video section. If a broadcast program is newly selected under a condition where the recording of the currently received broadcast program is prohibited, the recording flag is reset to “0” and the first received video section of the newly selected broadcast program is recorded onto the rewritable optical disc.
