    • An apparatus for treating the hair with liquids comprises an elongated casing including a liquid-containing cylinder in which is a floating plunger acting upon the liquid contents and displaceable to force the liquid out through a nozzle, by compressed air acting on the side of the plunger opposite to the liquid and generated by a manually driven air pump such as an elastic bladder disposed laterally of the cylinder, and in communication therewith, and operable by the hand grasped round the cylinder to hold the apparatus. As shown, the apparatus comprises a casing 1, which may be made of a transparent plastic, forming a handle and having a cylinder 2 formed therein. One end of the cylinder has a cover 3 which contains a channel 6 connected to the cylinder through a non-return valve 9, and to a rubber bladder 8 through a pipe 7. The bladder 8, when compressed supplies air to the cylinder 2 on one side of a freely running plunger 11; on the other side is a supply of liquid which is pressed out through a channel 12, to a distributing finger 13 which is retained by a stop screw 15, and has a groove 16 receiving a radial cam 17 on the cap 3 to secure the latter. The finger 13 has a bore 18 communicating with the passage 12 and with an elongated groove 20, the outer portion of which is widened to receive a liquid-distributing member 21, in the form of a wick. A normally-closed valve may be provided, comprising a tube 32 of elastic material, inserted with a tight fit into a bore 31, forming a continuation of the channel 12, and compressed by a hooked portion of a rod 33, having a button 34 thereon, by which it may be displaced against the action of a spring 35. A nozzle 29 (Fig. 9) for attachment to the apparatus of Figs. 1 and 2, and a spool 27 (Fig. 8) having a longitudinal bore 26 and a crosswise slot 28 may also be provided. Hair to be treated may be wound on the spool 27 and liquid may be supplied to the interior thereof by the nozzle 29 which is then withdrawn, and a pad 30 placed thereover, moistened with liquid, and used for rubbing the outside of the hair on the spool 27.

    • Methods of administering glyburide, or other drug, are disclosed. The novel methods disclosed herein include intravenous methods of administering glyburide, or other drug, over periods of more than an hour, preferably over periods of about 72 hours. The novel methods include administering a bolus of glyburide, or other drug, followed by a first continuous infusion administration of glyburide, or other drug; and optionally a second or further bolus administration of glyburide, or other drug, and/or a second or further continuous infusion administration of glyburide, or other drug. These methods are effective to rapidly achieve a desired level of glyburide, or other drug, and to provide a substantially steady level of glyburide, or other drug, over a desired period of time. The methods disclosed herein may be useful for treating a subject in need of treatment for, e.g., acute stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic), traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injury (SCI), myocardial infarction (MI), shock (including hemorrhagic shock), organ ischemia, and ventricular arrhythmias. These methods provide for the rapid achievement and maintenance of therapeutic glyburide, or other drug, plasma levels over an extended period of time, and further avoid excessive levels of drug and so avoid possible drug side-effects.
