The program upgrade apparatus includes a first memory for storing a reference version of the program and at least one upgrade package; a second memory for loading an upgrade version of the program; a communication unit for enabling the mobile terminal to communicate with an external system; and a control unit for controlling the communication unit to download the upgrade package in response to an upgrade notification message from the external system, installing the upgrade package within the first memory, generating an upgrade version of the program by merging the upgrade package and the reference version in response to an install command, and operating the mobile terminal with the upgraded version of the program.

    • A data compression method and data communication system utilizing the same includes: a sender apparatus that compares, in response to input of data to be sent, the input data with the previously sent data in storage. The sender apparatus produces, when a data item repeated in the input data and previously sent data is found, delta data by excluding the repeated data item from the input data. The sender apparatus represents the delta data in a transport format, and transmits the delta data. The system includes a receiver apparatus that receives the data in a transport format. The receiver apparatus adds, when delta data is present in the received data, a repeated data item to the delta data, and recovers the original data. The sender apparatus sends and receives data to and from the receiver apparatus through a text-based protocol.

The program upgrade method of the present invention includes generating, at the upgrade package processor, the upgrade package on the basis of differences between a first and second versions of the program; notifying, at the upgrade package server, at least one recipient device of an issuance of the upgrade package; downloading, at the recipient device, the upgrade package from the upgrade package server; installing the upgrade package in a non-volatile memory; generating the second version of the program by merging the upgrade package and the first version previously installed in the nonvolatile memory; and loading the second version on a volatile memory in response to an upgrade command.

The data compression/decompression apparatus includes a compressor for calculating costs of domain blocks to a range block through forward searching in a search range, for selecting the domain block having the lowest cost to the range block as a reference domain block through backward searching, for generating distance and difference information of the reference domain block, and for encoding the distance and difference information into compressed data of the range block.
