    • 1,032,930. Cleaning vehicles. S. TAKEUCHI. July 25, 1963 [July 28, 1962], No. 29545/63. Heading B7J. Apparatus for washing vehicle bodies comprises a travelling frame 1, Figs. 1 to 3, provided with wheels 10 and traversable along rails 59 relative to a stationary vehicle 62, by an electric motor 2, reduction gearing 4, shaft 6 and chains 9 connected to wheels 10, each vertical side member of the frame being provided with swivellable and spring-urged arms 12 carrying a vertical rotary brush 15 driven from an electric motor 29, the brush 15 having associated and swivellable therewith a pair of pipes 22, 21, Fig. 6, and Fig. 7 (not shown), for water and soap suds, whilst the horizontal upper member of the frame carries through arms 34 a gravity operated horizontal rotary brush 37 driven from an electric motor 39, and a horizontal pipe 53 selectively supplied with water or soap suds. Water or soap suds are selectively supplied to the respective pipes through a four-way valve 46, as described with reference to Fig. 9 (not shown), the valve being carried by a vertical side member of the frame. The valve 46 also connects through a valve 57 to a U-shaped pipe 58 whereby water may be sprayed on to the vehicle to remove soap suds. The motors 2, 29 and 39, which are reversible, are controlled from a push-button switch 61 on one vertical side member of the frame and also by limit switches 60, 60 1 at the ends of the track 59. In operation the frame is traversed to the right in Figs. 1 and 2, and water is sprayed on the vehicle whilst the brushes are rotated thereagainst. On reaching the righthand limit switch 60 the direction of movement of the frame is reversed as well as the direction of rotation of the brush motors. The cock 46 is then operated to cause soap suds to be sprayed on to the vehicle and the valve 57 operated whereby the soap suds will be removed by water from the following spray pipe 58.
