摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reprocessor having a circulation system for circulating a microbial deactivation fluid through a chamber forming a part of the circulation system.
SOLUTION: The reprocessor includes a water filtration system for filtering water used in the reprocessor. The water filtration system includes a fluid feed line connectable to a source of pressurized water. First filter and second filter elements are disposed in the fluid feed line for filtering fluids flowing therethrough. The second filter element is located downstream of the first filter element and has the capacity to filter particles smaller than those in the first filter element. The fluid feed line forms a fluid path for water entering the reprocessor, and defines a portion of a path for the microbial deactivation fluid circulated through the circulation system.

SOLUTION: The method of treating the surfaces of medical instruments which are contaminated with protein associated disease (such as prions) includes a process contacting the surface with a composition containing a source of peroxide ions, such as hydrogen peroxide, at a molar concentration of at least 1.5M peroxide (equivalent to approximately 5% hydrogen peroxide) and preferably, about 2M peroxide (approximately 7% hydrogen peroxide). The composition is optionally in the form of gel according to need. The composition is retained in contact with the surfaces for about 2 hours until all or substantially all protein associated disease contamination is removed.
