[Class 117.] In vibrating screening apparatus, the clutch for controlling the drive of the screen and a door for regulating the discharge of the screened material are interconnected so that they can be operated together or separately by the same handle. In the arrangement described a casing 2 encloses a screen 4 supported, as described in Specification 362,620, on a frame 1 which is suspended on links 5 and driven by an eccentric 18. A door 6 is pivoted in the frame on an axle carrying at one end a two armed bracket 19 to one arm 15 of which is pivoted a handle 9 adapted to slide in a slot in the other arm 14. The handle is also connected by a swivel link 20 to a lever 21 which controls the clutch 7 connecting the driving pulley 8 to the eccentric shaft.

[Class 78 (iii)] In catch - gear for lifts, hoists, and the like, of the kind in which the breaking of the suspension rope causes a member to move relatively to the cage or platform and thus apply cams to the guide rails, the connecting link between the cams and the movable member is formed by a flexible extensible member. The invention is shown applied to a hoist with an overhung platform moving in a pair of vertical guides. The suspension rope 3, is connected to a sliding frame 6 which supports the platform through the agency of a spring 7 bearing against a cross-bar 22. The downward movement of the member 6, on breakage of the suspension rope, causes springs 8 to rotate the shaft 9 and thus apply cams 10 to the guides. The contacting surface of the guide may be lined with brake-material and the cam-shafts 9 supported by U-shaped straps 11 associated with resilient packing 12 to avoid shock and undue strain on the mechanism in working. Springs 16, acting directly on the cam-shaft, assist in applying the cams in ordinary circumstances and also act to apply them in emergency, should the springs 8 fail. The springs 8 and cams 10 preferably are duplicated, so that one cam is applied to each guide rail. A bar 14 maintains the frame 6 in its raised position when the cage rests on the bottom of the shaft, thus preventing the action of the cams at this point.

Vibrating screens are supported by rubber blocks fitted into sockets provided for them either on the screen or rigid base and having openings through which pass rods secured to the other member. As shown in Fig. 4, cylindrical blocks 12 are fitted in sockets 11 secured to the screen frame 1. The central part of the blocks has a metal liner 13 fixed firmly therein and fitted on shafts 14 secured to the base frame, the frame of the screen having enlarged openings 16 to allow relative movements between the parts. The shafts are mounted in brackets 15 secured to the base frame, and lateral expansion of the blocks is limited by a washer 17 and spacer 18. The socket may be formed with an overhanging lip to engage a bead on the rubber block. The,resilience of the blocks in directions at right angles to one another is made different by piercing holes at diametrically opposite parts of a cylindrical block or by forming the block of elliptical shape. The screen frame is driven by rotary unbalanced weights.
