Chain wrenches.-In a pipe wrench of the kind comprising a hand lever and a chain connected thereto by a yoke member, the free end of the chain being secured to the lever after being passed round the pipe and through the yoke by means of a hooked terminal engaging anchorages in the lever, the lever is constituted by a tube which is flattened at its forward end to receive the pivoted yoke and is also rounded to make rolling contact with the chain. The chain 2 is carried by a yoke 3 pivoted on a pin 5 to the flattened rounded end 6 of passed round the pipe 7, through the yoke and down alongside the handle, being secured by engaging its anchoring member 4 in one of a series of apertures 9 along the handle. The link of the chain adjacent to the yoke is provided with a lug 10 to engage the pipe at the connecting point of the chain and yoke. The Provisional Specification also states that the forward end of the handle may be provided on each side with a guard disc to bear on the pipe, and that the anchoring hook may be replaced by a buckle embracing the tubular handle.

[Class 78 (iv)] A grab . for lifting plates comprises a jaw 20 to the shorter arm 20 of which is pivoted a two-sided lever 24 having teeth 27 which grip the plate 22. The longer arm 201 of the jaw 20 may be serrated where it supports the plate 22. A suspension shackle 25 is pivoted to the outer end of the lever 24. Two or more jaws may be employed to lift a plate, and the teeth 27 may be dis. posed within the slot of the jaw or outside same. A pin 29 limits the swing of the lever 24, and a hole 28 can receive a control rope.

Ground levers with spring toggle reversed by repeated operations of the handle 16 have an arm 18 knuckle-jointed at 17 to the handle and provided with a pair of inclined horns 20, 21 engaging in recesses in the arm 1, one horn being alternately engaged and disengaged by the rocking of the arm 18. The recesses may be arranged for a pulling-arm 18 as shown, or for a pushing-arm. The arm 1 is pivoted at 3 and connects at 13 with the point rod 14. Flanges on the lid limit the side movement of the arm 18 while projections 26 engage horns 25 on the arm 1. The other arm 2 of the toggle has a notebed knife-edge, fulcrum 9. The handle is arranged to return by gravity.

Operating belt forks.-A belt-shipper operated in both directions by a cord moved in one direction comprises a beam 5 secured to a rock shaft 1 and slotted to form an inverted V-shaped track 9 for a rider 3, to which is attached the cord 4. The rider is counterbalanced at 10 and is mounted loosely on a boss 1 carrying the shaft 1. The beam 5 is fitted with weights 11 rolling in an arcuate slot 12. The rock shaft is operatively connected to the fork bar 2 by a slotted arm 6 engaging a stud 7 on the fork bar, the stud being adjustable in the slot to provide for shipping belts of varying widths. The shaft 1 is provided with a stud 13 engaging stops (not shown) in the boss 1 to limit the oscillatory movement. The shipper is mounted on an adjustable post 14.

Folding seats.-A tip-up seat for use in theatres, picture-houses and the like, which on being depressed is held in the depressed position until the seat has been occupied and the occupant of the seat has risen is carried by a frame A provided with a curved socket B for the pivot pin H of the seat and with a rear recess D to limit the movement of the seat by engaging stop pins E on side brackets F on the underside of the seat. The brackets F has short slots G to take the pivot pin H this pin normally being held at the bottom of the slots by flat springs L. On pulling down the seat from its raised position a pivoted hook K on a sliding member I fitted under the seat engages a pin M extending from the side frame. The seat is thus held in readiness for use. When occupied the seat is depressed against the pressure of the springs L and the hook K falls away from its pin, the slide I also being moved away by its cam shaped end engaging the pivot H. When the occupant rises the seat tips up and the slide I falls by gravity into such a position that the hook K will again engage the pin on depression of the seat.

Axle, frame, screw, and like pulleys.- Pulley frames of the type comprising one or more pulley wheels journaled in cheeks provided with means for attachment to a ceiling or wall, are constructed from a sheet of metal as shown in Fig. 1. Crescent-shaped orifices 2 are punched out on each side of the centre, and the cheeks are formed by folding the ends along the lines forming the bases of the crescents, so that the two axle holes 5 are in register. The holes 4 are then in laterally-extending flanges projecting beyond the cheeks and form alternative securing means to the central hole 4 which is provided specially for a coach screw for engaging a ceiling joint. Holes 4 are provided for use when the pulley is to be secured to a wall and holes 5 for the wheel axle.

[Classes 44 and 65 (i)] To prevent forcing of a door 15, a stay-bar 2 is attached by a link 3 to an angle iron wall abutment 1, and rests at its free end on a catch bar 7 in an abutment 4 fixed to the door, the catch bar 7 being pivoted at 8 and normally supported in a slot 6 in the abutment 4 but operatively connected to the lock 10 by a link 12 so that when the lock is unlocked the bar 7 is withdrawn from the slot 6 and falls, allowing the stay-bar 2 to fall from the abutment 4. In closing the door, the stay-bar slides on the top of the flange of the abutment 4 until when the door is closed it drops on to the catch bar 7. The bar 7 may be replaced by a bell crank lever, one arm of which supports the stay-bar while the other is operated by a part of the lock.

The riving-knife I, which is guided below the bench Q by a slotted member (not shown), has' pivoted and sliding engagement respectively with pins K, L and is clamped by wing-nuts K , L , a plate M with a sighting-slot N being carried on these pins. Fig. 4 shows the parts C, I adjusted to suit a small or worn-down saw.
