    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring appearance quality of polished rice etc., that can determine quality of each of respective sample grains even if tens of samples are successively supplied during determination on appearance of polished rice etc., in which a computer system automatically determines appearance quality of a polished or unpolished rice sample and displays the quantity and constitution ratio thereof when the sample is supplied.SOLUTION: An appearance quality measurement method for polished rice and unpolished rice includes the processes of: photographing polished rice etc., placed on a sample table by a camera; saving an original image in a data format corresponding to an RGB or YUV model by a frame grabber; binarizing the saved image; generating a two-dimensional image in a contour form from the binarized image; making the two-dimensional image three-dimensional, and extracting a border line; separating images of the polished rice etc., which are in contact with each other with reference to the border line, and labeling the respective images; and analyzing the respective labeled images and determining the proportion and quantity of one or more of complete rice, powdery rice, broken or moth-eaten rice, cracked rice, discoloring rice, etc.
