摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable verification of digital tokene where an error correction code can be read from a mail matter by using an error correction code as information that represents receiver information with a digital token and making the error correction code duplicate with address information. SOLUTION: A calculation system is a personal computer 104 and is arbitrarily provided with an address database 106. A printer 108 prints a series of mail matters 110. The matter 110 includes an enciphered seal 112 of a 2D bar code and the format error correction code information 114 of addressee information is stamped on the matter 110. The seal 112 includes information that authenticates postage payment of the matter 110. The matter 110 is presented to receiving equipment 116 and a sorter 118 which reads the address corresponding the matter 110 by borrowing the help of a correction code.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the security and substitution possibility by providing a communication printer controller which detects the state of a fault, stores the record of the state of the fault in a history file in the memory of a printer, and then informing the memory of a postage meter of it. SOLUTION: The controller 162 monitors the activity of the printer 160 to detect when a fault occurs to the printer 160. Its record is stored in the memory 164 indicating the fault. Once a fault occurs, the relative record is stored in a file so that a history log of faults is held in the printer 160. After mutual authentication is successful, the history file is uploaded from the printer 160 to a postage meter 120 and stored in a nonvolatile memory NVM 142. Then the postage meter 120 uploads the history file to a data center 50 simultaneously with other predetermined events.

The PSD 40 has a unique identifier and is able to store postage values and generate digital signs. When postage payment needs to be certified, the printer modules 22 and 24 directly request the PSD 40 to certify the postage payment. The PSD 40 has an optionally selected modem for connecting to a data center 5. A computer 20 is able to make a connection through the modem of a printer module.

SOLUTION: A postage metering system includes a host processor to which printers 22 and 23 are connected. A post security device(PSD) 40 is connected to the host processor. The PSD 40 is provided with a first peculiar identifier, a first postage storage device, and a first digital signature generator. The host processor request the PSD 40 to issue a first certificate of postage payment printed by printers 22 and 23 and can obtain it. The host processor requests a remote data center 5 to issue a second certificate of postage payment printed by printers 22 and 23 and can obtain it. For each meter transaction printed by printers 22 and 23, the host processor starts to request one of first and second certificates of postage payment. In one embodiment, the host processor is a general computer.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To print a postage stamp while using a network by starting a request for the payment of postage from a PSD through an in-station client processor and connecting the client processor to a remote data center. SOLUTION: A network PC meter system 10 is provided with plural client PC 20 connected to a network server 30 and connects a PSD 40 to the client PC 20. The plural PSD 40 exist in the network PC meter system 10 and are connected to the client PC 20. When any specified PSD 40 is accessed for a meter transaction, the client PC 20 becomes a meter sever PC 21 during the transaction. When the PSD 40 is accessed by the client PC 20, the client PC 20 is functioned as an independent PC meter system. The client PC 20 communicates with a data center 5 and executes the reload of postage to the in-station PSD 40.

The first personalized postage stamp includes specified data the Ministry of Postal service and Telecommunications requests and a picture of at least one man based on the stored electronic image.

A method for disabling a portable vault of the postage meter system is (A) to insert the portable vault into the terminal of the postage meter system, (B) to automatically seek whether it is shown that the vault is impossible through the terminal and (C) to include a step that disables the inserted vault when it is asked to show that it is impossible in the step (B).

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reissue a digital token with respect to an open metering system by reissuing the token from the transaction records for regeneration of an indicia affixed to a mail. SOLUTION: When a request for a digital token is received from a PC 12, a vault 20 calculates at least a digital token in response to the received request and issues the token to the PC 12. The issued token is stored as a part of transaction records of the PC 12 for the later printing. As a result, the digital token can be accessed for the generation and print of an indicia which are performed by the PC 12. When the digital token is unavailable, i.e., not appropriately printed on a mail, the token is reissued preferably from a DLL than the vault 20.

Then the generation box sets an area ID in an internal memory and ciphered by a secret key in an area key set and generates an area key coded by an authentication key of the area key set. Oak boxes 20, 22, steel box 32, and brass boxes 21, 40 receive a set safe box ID message from the generating box and are initialized.
