March 11, 1958 [March 11, 1957], No. 7908/57. 142(2) An open shed jacquard has de-shedding means which permits the loom to be stopped with all the threads lowered and brings the open shed mechanism into operation automatically when the loom is re-started. In one embodiment (Fig. 1) applied to a double cylinder jacquard, the hooks 10 have additional nebs 15 engaged by additional bars 16 when the hooks are raised to maintain an open shed. A bar 21 reciprocated in synchronism with the cylinder carriage carries a lug 22 that engages stops 20 on a plate 18 thereby moving the plate and causing the bars 16, pivoted at 17, to engage alternately adjacent rows of hooks 10. The nebs 15 are moved clear of the bars 16 when the threads are to be lowered by bars 25 carried by members 26 moved by a flexible member 33 and lever 31. A latch 35 engages the adjacent end of the bar 21 to retain the nebs clear of the bars 16 but is released when the boom is restarted so that the open shed mechanism is automatically brought into operation. In a second embodiment for use with a single cylinder jacquard, the hooks 40 (Fig. 2) have additional nebs 41 engaged by quadrant shaped bars 42. The ends of the bars are carried in plates 43 (Fig. 5) and extensions 45 on the bars engage slots 47 in further plates 46 which move longitudinally on the plates 43 to move the bars clear of the nebs 41 when the yarns are to be lowered. The plates 46 are moved by a linkage similar to that described with reference to (Fig. 1) and locking means, automatically released when the loom restarts, is provided.

    • 294,430. Walker (Blackburn), Ltd., P., and Walker, H. D. Dec. 21, 1927. Jacquards.-In cross border jacquards, the T- levers C for operating the body and border cylinders A, B are mounted on pendant arms D, one of which has a roller or bowl d' entering a cam' groove in a cam E. The pendent arms D are connected by links, d to arms d on a cross shaft d , whereby they are caused to move in unison. A catch f controlled by a pattern chain F, which is intermittently rotated under the control of two strong indicating needles G, G operated by the respective cylinders A, B can turn the cam by operating a star wheel e on its shaft, thus shifting the pendent arms D and T-levers 0 and causing a change from one cylinder to the other. The cam groove is shaped to bring the pendent lever D it controls slowly to rest in its two positions. The star wheel is controlled by two spring- pressed plungers e and the catch f is operated by an arm f on the usual rocking shaft operated from the top shaft of the loom by the usual crank and connecting rod and operating the T-levers C by lever mechanism. The pattern chain has rollers f for raising the catch f clear of the star wheel e , but also certain axles f free of rollers which allow the catch to engage. The indicating needles G, G are connected by a link g so as to move. in unison, and special holes are formed in the cylinder to receive these needles. The chain F can be intermittently rotated by means of a catch f , but when one or the other needles G, G is pressed back a notched part of the needle G operates a finger f and a finger f is moved into a position in front of the catch f , which then moves past its star wheel f without operating it. If, however, the needles G, G remain stationary, the catch f' operates the wheel. The hooks H connecting the needles a, b are bent where they engage their respective bars h , to prevent these hooks from' turning and lifting during the working of the jacquard.
