Photo-mechanical printing-surfaces; printing-apparatus.-In a process for printing from an ordinary negative in conjunction with a half-tone screen, the screen is independently printed either before or after the main exposure through the screen and negative. For the independent exposure of the. screen, a sheet of glass or foil equivalent in thickness to the negative may be interposed. To accurately position the screen for the two exposures, the screen may be mounted on a heavy frame B hinged at C and counterbalanced by a releasable counterweight E. A gear G is provided for bringing the sensitive plate up to any prescribed level and levelling screws H are also provided. A guard plate I protects the screen against dropping particles of ash or carbon. The process obviates long exposures through dense negatives or the use of thin negatives, and is particularly suitable for making photo-lithographic surfaces, as well as for making stereotype plates and plates for newspaper type. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the apparatus may be used for ordinary printing by substituting a plane glass plate for the screen. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
