摘要： 303,408. May, K. P. June 28, 1927. Divided on 273,344, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 29, 1927. Butt joints; joints with pa.cking actuated by fluid pressure.-In a pipe wherein fluid-tightness is secured by packing 7 enclosed in a closed packing chamber 8, which is hollowed out in the pipe ends 1, 2 so as to cross the joint, the packing consists of a yielding ring of resilient or plastic material in the form of a tubular element. As shown in Fig. 2, the two halves of the packing chamber are of trapezoidal cross-section, while an annular aperture 9 is provided to allow the internal pressure to act upon the packing ring. In a modification, Fig. 3, the inner wall of the chamber is replaced by a rigid protective ring 4, which is of slightly less length than the packing ring and is provided with perforations 5 to allow access of pressure thereto.
