    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved bleed air cooling method used for a gas turbine engine. SOLUTION: This bleed air cooler assembly 36 includes a cooler body 44 defining a fluid passage within it. The cooler body 44 is formed of two halves 58, 60 of a shell defining respective spaces 46, 48 therein. Fluid communication between an inlet 54 and an outlet 56 within a connector 52 is prevented by a partition 62. The inlet 54 and outlet 56 are in fluid communication with the respective spaces 46, 48 within the cooler body 44 through respective apertures 55 defined in the opposite sides of the connector 52. Bleed air is introduced from the inlet 54 to flow through the space 46, aperture 50 and space 48 and to then be discharged through the outlet 56. The two halves 58, 60 of the shell provide a large contact area to both high-temperature bleed air flowing through the inside of the cooler body 44 and to relatively low-temperature bypass air flowing within an annular bypass passage 28 for heat exchange.
