Adjusting length of. - A wire or cord adjuster, primarily for adjusting the length of electrical flex for supporting a lamp, consists of a shallow cylindrical box A. with a lid K, containing a small winch or barrel B, which is shown integral with the box A, but may be separate from it. The cord is placed in the slots E, F in the edge of the lid K, and in the slot D in the barrel B; the lid is then placed on the box A, and secured by a spring split pin Q, which holds the parts together with sufficient friction to prevent their relative rotation and the consequent unwinding of the cord on the barrel B. In modifications, the barrel B has a slight taper, and has a slightly larger diameter than the aperture in the lid K, and is sprung into it, the friction there serving to prevent unwinding.

摘要： The apparatus comprises a chain of sealed compartments 2-9 adapted to float at the surface of the sea. Each compartment has a planar base 2A, 3A etc. of reflective material and a cover 2B, 3B etc. of translucent material. Each compartment has a first 2C etc. and second 2D etc. water ports and a gas exit port 2E etc. Gas enrichment tanks 10 having a one way inlet 21 connected to the first water port and a one-way outlet 22 are adapted to dissolve gas in the water. The tanks also comprise an algae extraction port 27 and a water inlet port 28. In use each compartment is filled with water and algae and wave motion induces a pressure differential in adjacent compartments transferring water through the gas enrichment tanks. Algae is encouraged to grow through direct sunlight and sunlight reflected from the base and from the dissolved gas.

摘要： 1049. Oliver, F. Jan 14 Nailing, hand tools for.-A chisel or tool for reducing the sizes of sockets or holes in metal plates, horse-shoes, &c., is provided with a tapered guide B adapted to fit loosely in the hole and having on opposite sides of the base a pair of chisel edges or indenting-members C which are forced into the metal. The guide is adapted to be withdrawn and reinserted at right-angles to contract the hole evenly on four sides. In a modification, the body of the tool is provided with a handle at right-angles and the end opposite to the guide B may be formed as a hammer. In the further modification shown in Fig. 3, the handle is forked at F to act as an extractor for horse-shoe studs &c., and the body is provided on one side with a boss G with a groove H, and on the other with a boss J to act as a driving-set for the studs. The guide may be provided with one, two, or more indenting-members, and may be circular with a circular indenting-ring. The indenting- members may be divided into a series of points.

Class 61 A tool for transporting and laying building blocks and the like comprises two pivoted jaws 1 adapted to engage the sides of a block x, a handle 6 and a linkage between the handle and the jaws adapted to close the jaws on the sides of a block when the handle is pressed downwards, releasable means being provided for holding the jaws in the block-engaging position until such time as it is required to remove the tool from the block. As shown in Fig. 1, the jaws 1 are pivoted at 2 to the ends of a bridge 3 A tube 4 is mounted on the bridge and receives a hollow shank 5 of the handle 6. A compression spring 17 urges the shank 5 upwardly. Two arms 8 extend from the shank and pass through slots 7 in the tube 4. Push-pull links 10, 11 pivotally connect the arms 8 to the ears. 16 on the jaws 1. When the bridge 3.is laid on the block x and the shank 5 depressed the links close the jaws against the block and teeth 19 on the jaws bite into the block. The jaws are held in the closed position by latching means comprising a rod 20 screwed into a bossed part 31 of the bridge and held in adjusted position by a grub-screw (not shown). A latch 22 (Fig. 3) is engaged with an inverted shoulder 21 formed at the top of the rod 20. The latch is brought into engagement with the shoulder 21 by a garter spring 23 engaging a lug 24 on the latch and surrounds the shank 5. A length of chain 25 extends round a stirrup part 26 of the handle and connects the latch to a, trigger 28 which is normally urged downwards by a spring 30 in the hand-grip 18 of the handle. When the laying operation is completed, upward finger pressure on the trigger 28 retracts the latch 22 from the shoulder 21 and upward movement of the handle 6 turns the jaws 1 away from the block.
