    • PURPOSE: To obtain a battery having high, flat discharge voltage, and large discharge capacity by using graphite fluoride obtained by reacting decomposition residual carbon of a covalent binding intercalated graphite compound with fluorine as an active material.
      CONSTITUTION: Decomposition residual carbon of a covalent binding intercalated graphite compound which is formed by covalent bond of carbon atoms and intercalated atoms is fluorinated to obtain graphite fluoride. When the covalent binding intercalated graphite compound is graphite oxide, a reaction system comprising crystal carbon or amorphous carbon, strong acid oxidizing agent and water is heated at a temperature not exceeding 120°C, and graphite oxide obtained is again heated at about 230°C to obtain decomposition residual carbon of graphite oxide. Fluorination of the decomposition residual carbon is conducted in a fluorine stream at 20∼550°C.

A mixed stage compound consisting of at least two among the 1st stage W the 8th stage compounds having different values of (x) and (y) in the formula I is suitable for use as a material for electric conduction having stability to moisture and superior electric conductivity.
