    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tray handler for stacking and de-stacking ophthalmic prescription trays.
      SOLUTION: The tray handler forms a stack area along a conveyor by a plurality of mutually spaced clamp parts, and has a lift plate and first and second actuators. The lift plate is operably arranged in the stack area, and the first actuator operates by linking with the clamp parts, and the clamp parts can move to the inside and the outside to the lift plate by operation of the first actuator. The second actuator operates by linking with the lift plate, and can move in the vertical direction in the stack area by operation of the second actuator. A control device controls these operations by communicating with the first and second actuators. A method of handling the ophthalmic prescription trays is also disclosed.

    • The present invention is directed to a machine programmed to edge an ophthalmic lens blank (L). The machine includes an edger device (20) for forming a bevel (22) in a peripheral edge of the lens blank, a central processing unit operably associated with the edger device for controlling operation thereof, and a computer program stored on a medium in communication with the central processing unit. The computer program includes a first instruction set operably causing the edger device to form a bevel in a peripheral edge of a lens blank. A second instruction set operably causes the edger device to form a step (26) in the peripheral edge intermediate an apex (24) of the bevel and an interface between the peripheral edge and a major surface (10,12) of the lens blank. A method of controlling an edger device for edging an ophthalmic lens blank and a computer program are also disclosed.

    • The present invention relates to a tool for shaping and polishing an edge of an eyeglass lens. The tool includes a longitudinally extending body rotatable on the axis thereof, with a proximal portion and a distal portion. A first cutter extends axially and radially from the distal portion, and includes a first blade for shaping an edge of a lens. The distal portion has a first diameter defined by the first blade. A polishing hub is secured to and extends coaxially from the distal portion and is rotatable therewith. A second cutter is secured to and extends coaxially from the polishing hub and is rotatable therewith. The second cutter has a second blade for shaping the edge of the lens. The second blade defines a second diameter less than the first diameter. The present inventionalso relates to an edger having the disclosed tool, and a method of edging.

    • A lens drilling device for drilling a hole into a lens held by a lens retaining system, comprising a base; a pivoting drill support arm, whereby the pivoting drill support arm is adapted to pivot from a retracted position where the drill is pivoted away from a working area to an extended position where the drill is positioned to act on said lens at a suitable angle to be normal to the lens surface. A motor is mounted to the pivoting drill support arm to drive a drill mounted to the pivoting drill support arm remote from the motor. The drill is substantially stationary when performing a drilling procedure in the extended position. In a preferred embodiment, the drill mechanism is a modular unit that bolts onto an edger machine to provide a streamlined state of the art patternless edger with drilling capability.
