    • Materials for media to be used for efficiently effecting the proliferation and acclimatization of plants to be tissue-cultured to thereby give mature seedlings; a process for producing these materials; and a culture method characterized by using these media. The tissue culture media are characterized by containing vermiculite having an average grain size of 0.1 to 10 mm and cellulose fibers having an average fiber length of 0.01 to 5 mm. In the culture method, the above medium is used in a light-transmittable container at least partly covered with a porous film having a gas permeability (air permeability: JIS P 8117) of, preferably, 1 to 50 sec/100 ml. By using a medium produced by molding a mixture of a specific vermiculite with cellulose fibers, the culture can be efficiently carried out with good handling characteristics and good rooting and growth can be achieved. Thus, good seedlings can be obtained by a single culture without resort to acclimatization. Moreover, these seedlings can be transplanted and grown as such in the soil for raising the same outside without damaging the roots. Combined use of the medium with a gas-permeable container makes these effects further remarkable.

    • A separator for fuel cells of solid polyelectrolyte type which overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art, is lightweight, can be slotted easily, and exhibits high gas barrier properties; and processes for the production thereof. The separator is of the type to be sandwiched between gas diffusion electrodes of the fuel cell and characterized by being made of the carbonaceous composite material comprising expanded graphite particles which have a mean particle diameter of 5 to 12 mu m and at least 80 % of which have diameters falling within the range of 0.1 to 20 mu m and a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin or a sinter thereof, wherein the graphite particles are dispersed in the resin of sinter thereof, and having slots for feeding oxidant gas or fuel gas on one or both surfaces thereof. The separator can be produced by mixing a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin with the above-specified expanded graphite particles, pressure-molding the obtained mixture at ordinary temperature to 400 DEG C and forming slots of feeding oxidant gas or fuel gas on one or both surfaces of the resulting carbonaceous composite material, or by mixing a thermosetting resin with the above graphite particles, pressure-molding the obtained mixture at ordinary temperature to 400 DEG C, firing the resulting molding in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at 700 to 3000 DEG C to form a carbonaceous composite material, and forming slots for feeding oxidant gas or fuel gas on one or both surfaces of the material, or by mixing a thermosetting resin with the above graphite particles, pressure-molding the obtained mixture at ordinary temperature to 400 DEG C, forming slots for feeding oxidant gas or fuel gas on one or both surfaces of the obtained molding, and firing the resulting slotted molding in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at 700 to 3000 DEG C.
