    • 1513217 Variable capacitors MURATA MFG CO LTD 20 July 1976 [28 July 1975] 16 April 1976] 30185/76 Heading H1M A variable capacitor comprises an insulating stator support 2, a stator 3 mounted thereon consisting of stator electrode portion 3alpha and integral lead portion 3b extending through support 2, dielectric plate or coating 4, metal rotor 5, rotor connection 6 consisting of spring portion 6a contacting rotor 5 and urging it towards the stator, and integral lead portion 6b extending through stator support 2, the assembly, except for the extending portions of leads 6a, 6b being housed in casing 7 and base 1 secured thereto, and the rotor being rotatable from the exterior of the casing. As shown rotor 5 has a recess 5b so that the capacitance changes on its rotation but it may have any like functioning cut-away portion. Slot 5alpha is provided for engagement with a screw-driver, or aperture 7e may be closed by a plug having a projection mating with slot 5alpha, the plug being rotatable by a screwdriver (Fig. 8, not shown). The stator electrode may be moulded with support 2 so that their surfaces are flush, and the electrode may have projections for keying it to the support. In an alternative embodiment (Figures 9 and 10, not shown) the contact portion of the rotor lead is separate from the spring. Support 2 may be integral with base 1. Casing 7 and base 1 may have mating projections and grooves and may be secured together by adhesive or by ultrasonic welding.

    • 1516821 Variable resistors MURATA MFG CO Ltd 15 Feb 1977 [2 March 1976] 06263/77 Heading HIS A variable resistor comprises an insulating rotor 3, having a resistive track 3b on one face electrically connected at 3f to at least one conductive layer 3d on the other face, the resistive track being contacted by the contact 4d of a fixed terminal 4 and the conductive layer (5) being engaged by at least one further fixed terminal 2 mounted on an insulating base, plate 1. As shown, a terminal 2 fits in a groove 1b, rotor 3 fits in a recess la under a projection 1d, and terminal 4 fits on a projection 1e of base plate 1. A slot 3c in the rotor permits adjustment thereof by a screwdriver. In a modification (Figs. 8-10, not shown) two concentric conductive layers are provided on face 3a1, respectively connected to opposite ends of the resistive track, the conductive layers each being engaged by a respective fixed terminal (2 1 A, 2 1 B). The resistor may be provided with a cover 5 having a hole 5a aligned with screwdriver slot 3c. To prevent entry of dust the hole may be surrounded by a sleeve (5 1 b, Fig. 5, not shown), or be fitted with a plug member 6. The plug member has a projection 6c, which engages screwdriver slot 3c, and itself has a slot 6b to receive a screwdriver for rotor adjustment.
