摘要： If a recording rate of data is close to a writing rate on a recording medium, recorded data is externally transmitted. The problems are solved by: an efficient separate use of data in a buffer and read out data; and the use of low resolution data. As illustrated, the 0th to third low resolution data to be transmitted are not read out from an optical disc because the data remain in a buffer at the time of transmission. Instead, the buffered data is transmitted. When the fourth low resolution data is to be transmitted, the fourth to sixth low resolution data are read out from the optical disc for transmission because the data have already been erased from the buffer. The present invention is applicable to, for example, a disc recorder.

摘要： A shortest cut duration is a minimum required period between an edit point set on a stream of pictures such as an MPEG stream and the next edit point set on the stream. Restrictions are made on the shortest cut duration lenient in editing the stream. A controller detects each edit point set on the stream and identifies the fewest possible pictures which are not to be displayed but must be decoded first before decoding a picture to be displayed after the edit point. Then, the controller finds a start point representing the timing to start decoding the fewest possible pictures. Subsequently, the controller controls decoders to decode the stream in picture units on the basis of the start point, and controls a switcher to select one of outputs of the decoders on the basis of the edit point.

Consequently, power for error detection and error correction is consumed only when sufficiently reliable data can be obtained by error detection and error correction using inner codes.

摘要： A reproducing apparatus comprises an error correcting means which includes first and second input circuits for inputting first and second coded data read out via different series separately, first and second frequency converters for converting the respective timing frequencies of the first and second coded data to higher frequencies, a multiplexer for generating third coded data by time-division multiplexing the first and second coded data of the higher timing frequencies, and an error corrector for executing an error correction of the third coded data. The apparatus further comprises a decode means for decoding the third coded data processed through error detection and correction, and a data output means for outputting the decoded data. The first and second coded data of different series can be inputted in parallel simultaneously due to the first and second input circuits, and such coded data of the higher timing frequencies are time-division multiplexed into third coded data of a single series, so that a process of error correction can be executed in a simplified configuration with a reduction of the power consumption.
