A tyre driven dynamo for cycles has an annular imbricatal pole-type stationary armature within which a rotor is provided having interdigitated poles embracing a permanent magnet, a bearing being provided on each side of the rotor. Fig. 1 shows a two-part casing 12a, 12b within which an annular stator formed of metal pressings 23a, 23b is firmly held. An armature coil 24 is accommodated inside the stator. Fig. 4 shows a rotor in the assembled condition and which comprises interdigitated teeth 15c, 15d respectively integrally connected with discs 15a, 15b which embraces an annular permanent magnet 21. In a modification, the permanent magnet is a rectangular block and the rotor spindle instead of being a single rod is formed of two parts, one fixed to the upper rotor disc and the other to the lower rotor disc.

The uprights 2 may be bolted to plates 3 carried by the footing 1 of the wall, the side shutters 8a, 8b being secured as by bolts and nuts to hollow spacers 6 which are slidably mounted on the uprights and clamped thereto by caps 7 tightened by nuts and bolts 10, 9. Sealing fillets may be provided on the shutters where they meet at corners. Wooden or other cores may be disposed between the side shutters to form cavity walls.

Funnels.-A funnel 4 is provided with a liquid passage 7 and an air passage 10 entirely separate from the liquid passage. and formed along the funnel wall. The passage 10 is connected through a hole in a diaphragm 6 with a space 8 around the passage 10 from which air is evacuated. The pipe 7 may be extended at 13 above the diaphragm 6 and perforated thereat to form a strainer. To prevent liquid from entering the air tube from above a secondary funnel may be provided, the spout of which fits over the extension 13. The air passage may be of semi-circular shape secured to the funnel wall with the top below the rim of the funnel.

Leakage, preventing; dashpots, applications of. -A manually actuated oscillating disc valve is provided with a rubbing collar packing device pressed more tightly against its seat as the valve is closed and with an atmospheric dash-pot arranged to permit a rapid action during the last portion of the closing movement. The valve discs 26, 27 have an interengaging projection and socket embraced by a slot 25 in an arm 24 mounted on a squared part 20 on the actuating spindle 19. The spindle has a flange 21 fitted with a fibre washer 2 housed in a recess 23 in a tubular member 12 screwed by a right-handed thread to an extension 9 on the main casing. The actuating handle 31 is mounted on a squared part 29 of the spindle and has projections 34 adapted to engage sockets in a member 28 engaging lefthanded threads on the member 12. The actuating handle is adjustably secured by a nut 37 having a flange provided with a series of slots one of which is engaged by a pin 40 screwed into the handle. The dash-pot comprises a plunger 42 provided with a L-shaped port 43 and pivoted by a bracket 41 to a fixed part of the apparatus. The cylinder 44 is bored out at 49 to provided a release passage and is coupled by links 46 to the actuating lever. Specification 251,786 is referred to.

Delivery, stopping.-In front of the rollers, the yarn supports a feeler wire l adjustable in the axle pin k of a balanced gripper jaw h which, when the yarn becomes too slack or breaks, grips the yarn behind the rollers against a fixed jaw g, the acting surface of which is eccentric to the gripping surface i of the movable jaw. Both of the gripping surfaces may be serrated if desired. The yarn is guided between the grippers by an adjustable guide m. To support the feeler wire l in the raised position while the yarn is being pieced, the axle pin k is movable longitudinally in its boss, which is provided with notches into which the feeler wire may take. Fig. 8 shows the gripping surface i carried by a pair of parallel links i , so that the surface i moves always parallel to itself. In this arrangement, the links are operated by the bent end l of the feeler wire l, which takes between them. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, and applied behind the rollers, the feeler levers o, of which there may be several according to the number of threads, are independent of the gripper jaw h and operate it on the breaking of a thread so as to cause the remaining threads to be gripped and broken.
