    • 963,299. Weighing apparatus. J. H. COMBRIDGE. Jan. 21, 1963 [Feb. 5, 1962], No. 4302/62. Heading G1W. [Also in Division G3] An apparatus which may be used to divide a flow of material into portions by weight comprises a double wheel provided with a plurality of containers to receive the material which may be liquid or granular. Each container 3 is counterbalanced by a weight 5 on a lever pivotally mounted on the wheel. In operation the wheel is held stationary by stop levers 2 and 14 and as material is poured into a container it swings downwards on its support lever until a projection of the lever engages a balance lever 7. When a predetermined maximum weight is in the container the opposition of a counterweight 8 on the lever 7 is overcome so that lever 7 rotates about its pivot and disengages from the container support lever. The latter lever continues to rotate and engages and moves a trip lever 9 which by means of a chain 10 pivots a lever 10 and the stop lever 2. The lever 2 is thus disengaged from a wheel spoke 1 allowing the wheel to rotate by the action of the weight of material in the container 3 and in the lower containers. Lever 9 disengages from the container support lever and together with lever 11 is returned to its initial position by a counterweight 12. The wheel thus rotates a step, the next empty container receives material and the cycle is repeated. The speed of rotation of the wheel is therefore proportional to rate of filling a container and the application of the invention to the measurement of time is suggested.
