    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for use in training a golfer to hit swing shots consistently and accurately.
SOLUTION: The device 1, 30 includes an indicator 17 securable to a shaft 6 or handgrip 31 of a golf club by an attachment device 5 such that it points along a line at a predetermined acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the shaft 6. Preferably, the indicator 17 is movable relative to the attachment device 5. In this case, a clamp 16 is provided that allows movement of the indicator 17, such that it can be moved to point along a range of acute angles relative to the shaft 6 and that can be tightened to clamp the indicator 17 at a selected angle of the range. A plate 2 with a scale 18 marked thereon can also be provided and the indicator 17 can include one or more needles that can be moved relative to the plate 2 across the scale 18.

    • The strength of coagulated protein filaments that have been insolubilized with formaldehyde in the presence of an acidified highly-concentrated salt solution, is improved by treating them with an aqueous solution of at least one uranyl salt. The process may be applied to filaments which have been obtained from alkaline solutions of casein or vegetable globulins, e.g. solutions of peanut or soya bean globulins in dilute caustic soda solution. The hardening may be effected by treatment of the filaments with a concentrated halide salt solution containing formaldehyde, a salt of a reducing sulphur acid, and an acid which does not oxidize the salt of the sulphur acid. Treatment with the uranyl salt is preferably effected while the filaments are under tension. Aqueous solutions of uranyl acetate, zinc uranyl acetate, or of uranyl salts of hydrochloric, nitric, or sulphuric acid may be used. Treatment may be effected at raised temperature, e.g. 70 DEG C. In an example, a solution of ground nut protein in caustic soda is extruded into a sulphuric acid/sodium sulphate solution and the filaments formed are hardened by soaking them for several hours in a solution comprising brine, formalin, and sulphuric acid. The filaments are washed and dried, and then treated for 16 hours at 40 DEG C. with a solution of 3 per cent uranyl acetate in 0.1 N acetic acid. The filaments are washed and dried. The wet tensile strength is increased by 30 per cent. In another example, the hardened filaments are stretched to a maximum in a solution of uranyl acetate in dilute acetic acid at 70 DEG C. The stretch is maintained for 30 minutes and the filaments are then washed and dried. The wet tensile strength is increased by 80 per cent. Specifications 513,910, 533,952 and 597,497 are referred to.
