    • 151,282. Tanner, A. J. Sept. 19, 1919 [Convention date]. Ticket and token systems and apparatus for checking and registering.-In a zone or stage fare system for passenger vehicles, the separate zones are represented by checks or tokens having dis tinguishing colours or characteristics, a token issued to a passenger entering at one stage having an increased value assigned to it if retained and used for a stage or more beyond that which it represents. The tokens are issued and collected in a determined order, and an indicator is employed to display the successive values o the tokens. The tokens are issued by the at tendant from a distributing-box having a num ber of compartments corresponding to the num ber of zones, the compartments being successively brought into register with a delivery shoot fitted with a plunger for ejecting one token at a time At the end of the journey the tokens are dropped into a similar compartment in a receiving-box together with the fare, if desired. The distribut ing and collecting receptacles are provided with counters registering the number of passengers and also, if desired, with counters registering the number of journeys of the vehicle. The indica tor, set by the attendant, is placed in the interio of the vehicle. The tokens may be in the form of coloured disks 16, Figs. 1 and 2, contained in cylinders 9 mounted on a rotatable shaft 7 in the distributing-box 1. The cylinders are charged through an aperture 3 closed by a rotatable plate 4 provided with a lock 4 , and are adjusted to register successively with an ejecting plunger 18 by means of a hand-wheel 13 on the shaft 7. A counter 22 is associated with the plunger 18, and the rotatable base member 10 is provided with notches 14 engaged by a spring pawl 15 to retain the cylinders in their set position. The device may be secured to a rail 26 by a clamp 23. The collecting-box, Fig. 3, is provided with double the number of cylinders, to serve for both out and return journeys. The tokens and coins or tokens only are deposited in a glass hopper 33 having baffles 36 or other means for preventing illicit abstraction, and after scrutiny bv the attendant are allowed to fall into the proper compartment by operating a pivoted slide 51, the number of passengers being registered by a counter 54. The cylinders are successively brought into proper position by rotation of a wheel 43 fitted with a spring stop 44, and the number of complete rotations of this wheel may be registered by a counter. The contents of the cylinders may be removed through an opening 48, normally closed by a sealed plate 49, and placed in packets identified with the particular attendant of the vehicle. The device for indicating the zones and the fluctuating values assigned to the tokens comprises two polygonal drums 63, Fig. 5, set at each change of zone by pull-cords 68 and a ratchet device from either end of the vehicle. When more than three zones are used they may be represented by combinations of colours.

    • 4989. Tanner, A. J. Feb. 27. [Cognate Application, 12,442/13.] Ticket punches.-The casing of the punch is formed in two parts connected by screws passing through flanges and by lead rivets which may be marked with a seal. The upper part is adapted to receive the punched - out portions of the tickets and to carry a window which allows inspection of the counter. Access to the upper chamber is obtained through a sliding plate 16, which is released on the depression of a catch 18 by the insertion of a pin at a hole 20, a paper seal 21 being thereby broken. The spring-controlled punch 1 is provided with a cross-arm 5 and is enclosed in a cap 3 which forms a housing for the spring and a bearing for the punch lever. Adapted to engage with the cross-head, and lock it against movement, is a slide C, Fig. 6, provided with extensions 7 which engage the cross-head of the punch and lock it until the slide is moved longitudinally bv the insertion of a ticket. The slide also carries a pin 9 adapted to engage the spring- retracted crank 10 of a counter D and register the number of tickets inserted. An arm 13 carried by the punch is provided to operate the bell 12.

    • Disclosed is a shoe assembly 1 comprising a sole 2 and an inflatable cushioning member (10, figure 8), wherein the sole comprises a cavity 7 and an opening 6 providing access to the cavity from outside the sole. The inflatable cushioning member is inflatable between a first inflated configuration and a second deflated configuration. The inflatable cushioning member is removable from the cavity when in the deflated configuration, but cannot be removed from the cavity when in the inflated condition. The inflatable cushioning member may include a sealing assembly comprising a valve. The valve may comprise an opening (11, figure 8) and a plug (12, figure 8). The cavity may be located in a heel section of the sole and/or in an area underlying the ball of a wearers foot. The sole may comprise a plurality of cavities and/or inflatable cushioning members. A removable cap (38, figure 11) may be provided to cover the opening. Also disclosed is a kit of parts comprising the shoe assembly of the invention, and preferably an inflation device (110, figure 8) for inserting fluid into the inflatable cushioning member. A method of using the shoe assembly of the invention is also disclosed.
