摘要： A method of detecting cardiac arrhythmia in a patient is described. This method involves determining whether there is a mutation in the nucleotide sequence, the amino acid sequence, or both, of connexin40 obtained from a patient. The mutation may be localized within the transmembrane domain of connexin40. Furthermore, there is described a method of identifying a compound for the treatment off cardiac arrhythmia. This method involves providing a cell culture that is characterized by having impaired intracellular trafficking, impaired electrical coupling, reduced gap junction plaque formation, reduced intracellular coupling, or a combination thereof, when compared to a wild-type cell. A compound is added to the cell culture, and restoration of intracellular trafficking, electrical coupling, gap junction plaque formation, intracellular coupling, or a combination thereof, is monitored.

Such assays include the use of a peroxidase labeled specific binding reactant to form a detectable peroxidase-labeled specific binding complex. The buffered composition and labeled reactant can be supplied in a diagnostic test kit. The hydroxamic acid or acyl hydrazine can be represented by the structure (I): R-CO-NH-R' wherein R is aryl or 6 to 10 carbon atoms in the aromatic nucleus, alkyl of 1 to 7 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 5 to 10 carbon atoms in the ring, or heterocyclyl of 5 to 10 atoms in the ring, at least one of which is an oxygen, nitrogen or sulfur atom, and R' is hydroxy or amino.

[Class 39 (ii)] In order to prevent corrosion of the tungsten filament of an electric incandescent lamp when calcium fluoride is incorporated in the getter mixture for the purpose of preventing blackening of the bulb, the calcium fluoride is supplemented by a small quantity of silica or similar refractory oxide such as beryllia, alumina or titania, which is readily attacked by hydrogen fluoride and forms comparatively innocuous compounds which do not corrode the filament. Either synthetic or mineral calcium fluoride may be used and mixed mechanically with not less than 0.2 per cent. by weight of the refractory oxide, the preferred quantity being about 3 per cent. Since synthetic calcium fluoride is liable to absorb water and liberate hydrogen fluoride when the salt is hydrolysed as a result of heating, it is preferably sintered, then treated with concentrated hydrochloric acid and washed with distilled water, after which it is milled with finely ground refractory oxide, e.g., quartz, and then treated with concentrated hydrochloric acid to which a small amount of nitric acid has been added. If mineral calcium fluoride of not less than 98 per cent. purity is employed, the preliminary purification and sintering may, be dispensed with.
