    • 23,576. Circulators, Ltd., Schofield, H., and Sedgwick, C. H. Oct. 25. Partitions in water space.-Relates to jackets provided with tapering hoods placed over furnace-flues for promoting the water-circulation. To allow a jacket to be fitted and adjusted upon flues of different diameters, the end walls supporting the jacket are made flexible, and the jacket itself is made up of overlapping curved plates. The hood may be formed of two parts which overlap longitudinally. The end walls of the jacket shown consist of short thin plates a forming links connected by hinge-pins b. The walls are supported vertically upon the flue by flanges c on the plates, and are secured by chains j and adjusting-screws k . The plates e forming the jacket are secured by inserting projections d on the end walls in slots in the plates, and by driving wedges through the slotted ends of the projections. The two parts of the hood g are connected to the end walls by brackets h and bolts h . A hood may be provided with one or more apertures in its upper part for the escape of steam, a cover-plate being placed above and parallel to the hood. Curved or straight directing-pieces m may be placed inside the jacket or hood.

    • 8479. Circulators, Ltd., Ross, S. J., and Schofield, H. April 8. Partitions in water space.-Relates to the promotion of the circulation in steam boilers in the manner set forth in Specification 2348/05, and consists mainly in constructing the guiding- plates which promote the circulation so that they can be readily removed for inspection or repairs, and further in the utilization of the spaces between the combustion - chambers of marine boilers for promoting circulation. As applied to a double - ended boiler, the curved deflector which is arranged above each tubeplate is built of fixed sections a and detachable sections e arranged alternately. Each fixed section comprises a curved front plate a, Figs. 3 and 4, connected through a spacing-plate a to an angle-bracket a , which is bolted to a boiler stay b. The fixed sections thus provide curved guides in which the detachable sections slide, and their lower edges are bent up to serve as supports. A space d is left between the deflector and the adjacent edge e of the combustion-chamber in order that the water circulation may prevent the accumulation of a deposit on the chamber crown. The vertical side-plates f of the circulation passages are made readily removable either by providing keyhole slots for their fastening bolts or screws, or by providing them with hooks which clip over the smoke-tubes. The fastening-bolts may be carried by brackets clamped to the smoketubes. The spaces between the combustion chambers are provided with detachable sideplates i hooked on the stay-bolts e , bell mouthed inlet guides i , removable baffles i in front of the inlets, and curved deflectors j at the top. The application of the invention to a wet-back marine boiler is also described.
