Hoods. - In road vehicles of the saloon type having an aperture in the roof closable by a flexible canopy is tied at its rear end to the roof and arranged to be rolled up about its front edge which is stiffened by a rigid cross bar or the like the front end and sides being adapted for detachable connection with the roof structure. The flexible canopy 15 is secured to the roof structure at the rear of the closable aperture 14 and may. be, when rolled up, secured there or at an intermediate part by straps 23. The canopy is provided at its front end with a bar 17 which, when the canopy is extended, is adapted to clip into brackets situated at the front of the roof structure. The sides are adapted to be secured by press studs 25. Specification 174,933 is referred to.

Doors for passenger vehicles. - Bodies of road vehicles of the kind constructed of a skeleton framework covered by leather, fabric &c. particularly of the type in which the framework is flexible are constructed with doors the framework of which is provided with struts which may be manipulated to remove any sag which may occur in the body, and the body at the rear quarter is constructed without rear cant rails. The door frames comprise upper, intermediate and lower bars 44, 45, 46 and uprights 42, 43. Flexible ties 50 connect the pillars 42 with the lower bars 46 by means of screwed rods 52 which project through the bars 46 and may be adjusted by a nut. Two or more ties may be provided, subsequent ties being secured to intermediate pillars connecting the bars 45, 46. The cross bar 45 and the pillar are connected by plates 64 which contact with the inner plane surface of the bar 45 and the outer' plane surface of the pillar 42.

[Class 102 (i).] In a direct-acting steam pump employing a differential plunger d, e, the suction valve. box b is arranged coaxial with the cylinder c and the discharge passage is parallel with and integral with the cylinder, with the discharge valve h at right-angles to the cylinder axis. The differential plunger secures a continuous discharge. The suction valve-box b has two openings m, n to permit the attachment of the box with the suction opening k either coaxial with or at rightangles to the barrel c, the opening not in use being closed by a cover p. Each portion of the plunger d, e works through a stuffing-box. The exhaust steam may be discharged into the suction pipe. The wedging action of the chain on the left-hand movable flanges of the expanding chain pulleys e, h shown is balanced upon an intermediately pivoted lever m and control is effected to vary the speed by a lever j. A clutch q, r is provided for connecting a sleeve i carrying the sun gear h to the shaft g for solid high-speed driving. A brake o, p arrests this sleeve while the pair e, h is being varied for reduced forward speeds and reversed driving. This clutch and brake are brought in alternatively by a control lever n.
