    • A process is disclosed for determining the concentration of the various gases in a gas mixture by means of a gas sensor composed of three electrodes (1, 2, 3) and a solid electrolyte (4) upon the surface of which are secured the electrodes. A tension (Us) composed of a direct tension fraction (Udc) and an alternative tension fraction (Uac) is applied to at least two electrodes, the measurement electrode (1) and the counter-electrode (2). Us is regulated in relation to the reference electrode (3). The fractions (Udc and Uac) of the tension (Us) are selected so that the metallic salt formed by the ions of the solid electrolyte (4) with the gaseous components to be detected is again decomposed. The ion current that flows between the electrodes is measured as a function of the applied tension. The concentration of the various gases can be determined from the functional relation between the ion current and the tension (Us) by known mathematical methods.
