    • A harness bracket (10) comprises a first securement member (12) and a second securement member (14). The harness bracket (10) is arranged, in use, to be mounted to a carriage used in harness racing or trotting where the carriage is pulled along by a horse. A harness bracket (10) is mounted on to two shafts extending from the carriage (11) in order to secure a harness therebetween. The second securement member (14) is movable relative to the first securement member (12) in order for the securement means (i.e. a securement plane or the plane of the harness) to move towards an optimal plane for transferring the forces from the horse to the carriage (11) through the shafts (15). Accordingly, as the horse turns out of the line of the wheels (60) of the carriage, the second part (14) of the harness bracket (10) move and pivot to provide a securement plane at an angle to the plane of the wheels.

    • 518,249. Incandescent gas burners. KEITH BLACKMAN, Ltd., and KEITH, G. Sept. 24,1938, No. 27899. [Class 75 (i)] A burner nozzle for an inverted incandescent lamp such as described in Specification 465,599, comprises ,a cylindrical plug 1 formed with a number of mitrailleuse orifices 2 for the passage of the gaseous mixture and with a number of radial slots 3 for the passage of secondary air to the flame. The slots 3 merge into a central bore 4 in the lower part of the nozzle. Additional shallow radial slots 5 for the passage 'of secondary air are provided .in the nozzle surface between the slots 3. The nozzle is secured by a pin 10 to a socket hole 6 in the upper plate 7 of a chamber 7a through which the secondary air is supplied to the slots 3. 5. The pin 10 screws into a bridge 12 arranged in the gaseous mixture supply chamber 9. A tubular distance piece 15 arranged between the nozzle and the bridge 12 carries a metal gauze dome 8 the' lower part of which is held between the nozzle and the plate 7. In a modification the upper part of the nozzle is screwed into the hole 6, the pin 10 being dispensed with. The nozzle may be made from metal or a refractory material such as silicon carbide bonded with clay.

    • 465,599. Inverted incandescent gas lamps. KEITH & BLACKMAN CO., Ltd., J., and KEITH, G. Nov. 8, 1935, No. 30885. [Class 75 (i)] One or more syphon tubes 21, 22 are disposed partly within and partly exteriorly of the chimney 2 for thermally syphoning secondary air to one or more, preferably mitrailleuse, burner heads. The up-comer limbs 21 communicate with a chamber 11, having air-inlets 13 in the base 12, and the down-comer limbs 22 are connected to chambers 23 communicating through openings 24 with chambers 24a through which the groups of burner tubes 20 project. The chamber 11 communicates with the chimney 2 through an annular passage 7 and ports 8 of greater total area than the inlets 13 so that the pressure in the chamber is always substantially equal to the pressure in the globe 33 and wind effect on the chimney does not alter the pressure produced by the syphon tubes. The amount of secondary air supplied is controlled by valves 27 or metered by fixed orifices. Gas is supplied from the tube 9 through a branch tube 9 and a nipple 15 to a mixing-tube 16 projecting into the mixing- chamber 17. The nipple may be provided with an auxiliary outlet 15 , controlled by a needle valve 34, and additional gas may be supplied automatically by a small tube 35 when lighting or extinguishing the lamp. Each mantle 19 is carried by a refractory ring 37 provided with lugs 38 engaging bayonet slots in spring clips 39 attached to the plate 14. In a modification, the mixing-chamber 17 is supplied by two oppositely - disposed mixing - tubes and the secondary air is controlled by conical obturators in the lower end of the tubes 22. The upcomer limbs may be indented or fitted with staggered cross rods, or twisted strips of metal &c. may be inserted therein, to ensure good transmission of heat from the chimney gases to the ascending air, and the upper portions and return bends 26 of the syphon tubes may also be ribbed externally or internally. Each syphon tube may comprise more than one up-comer, or down-comer, limb, and a plurality of tubes may be arranged for operation in series. Two or more chimneys, each traversed by the up-comer limb of a syphon tube or tubes, may be provided.

[Class 110 (ii).] The pump comprises two or more segmental blocks 4, 5, each pair being connected by a cross-bar 7 whose ends repose in slots 4 , 5 , in the blocks. A driving shaft 3 is eccentrically positioned relatively to the cylinder 2 and contains the bar in a slot 9. Inlet and outlet ports 16, 17 are provided which lie in a transverse plane other than that containing the bar. The inner edges of the blocks run on a cylindrical sleeve 6 which is also rotated. In a modification the bar has part-spherical ends which run in metal cavities contained in the slots 41, 5 . In this case the ports and bar may lie in the same plane. A further arrangement describes a bar having a central slot which embraces a tongue on the shaft end. The ports may be contained in one or other of the pump end covers.

[Class 138 (ii).] One end of the overhung handle of a gas handiron is connected by a bent tube 8 to the distributing chamber 6 within the iron. This chamber is formed by the sole plate 1, an upper plate 5, and an upstanding wall 2 on the soleplate which is spaced from the edges thereof and which supports the upper plate. The wall is formed with sawcuts 3 which comprise the burner jets, the tube 8 being secured in a socket 7 in the plate 5. A cover 13 having additional air inlets 19 is secured to the plate 5 and is provided with a raised rear portion 16 having an aperture 17 through which the tube 8 passes. A deflecting scoop 18 for discharging the burnt gas is removably positioned in the aperture and may be arranged to deflect to either side as desired. The handle is hollow, its bore being shaped as a Venturi tube whereby it serves as an injector for the gas supply of which the nipple 11 is secured in the free end of the handle and is surrounded by air inlet apertures 91.

    • 252,448. Keith & Blackman Co., Ltd., J., and Keith, G. Feb. 24, 1925. Atmospheric gas burners. - In a burner for bread and biscuit ovens or the like, a venturi-tube 1 is adapted to be moved axially in the burner body 2 relatively to a nipple 4 for regulating the air supply and against a plug 9 for shutting off at will communication through the tube between the interior and the exterior of the oven or the like, the arrangement being such that the restoration of the original connection suffices for the proper re-setting of the air inlet adjustment. The nipple 4 is carried by an axially adjustable plug 16 having apertures 7 communicating with the gas supply pipe 3 so that, particularly when producer gas is used, the nipple may be withdrawn from a seatmember 8 to allow additional gas to pass around it into the tube 1. The plug 9 is removable for cleaning purposes. In one form, the tube 1 is operated by a handle 12 pivoted on a pin 13 and carrying a pin 12 , which passes through a slot 14 in the body 2 into a groove 15 in the wall of the tube 1, the movement of the tube away from the plug 9 being limited by an adjustable screwstop 16, locked in position by a transverse screw 17. In a second form, the tube 1 is provided with a pin 18, Fig. 4, passing through a slot 19 in the body 2 and through a tapered aperture 20 in a pivoted handle 20, an adjustable screw stop 22 being provided. In a third form, the tube 1 is provided with a transverse operating handle which passes through an inclined slot in the body 2.
