    • A vehicle brake adjustment device (11) consists of a vehicle brake having a stator (1), an actuation system (3), a rotor (8) and linings (7); the adjustment of linings (7) relative to rotor (8) being by means of a washer or C clip (14) or spring (104) unidirectionally binding on a shaft (13), in association with a disengagement limitation device (22, 23). A handbrake (27) may be incorporated in the vehicle brake which acts through the binder (14) and shaft (13). A further version for pedal and motor cycles which uses cable actuation is also described.

    • 609,853. Photographic cameras. MONTGOMERY, G. B. March 15, 1946, No. 8201. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (i)] A focusing lens mount coupled with the range-finder adjustment of a photographic camera comprises two coaxial tubes which are relatively movable and screwed into an annular body for engagement with the camera, one tube carrying an objective lens while the other engages the camera range-finding mechanism, a pin projecting from the wall of one tube engaging a helical slot in the wall of the other tube, the pitch of the helix and the difference in pitch between the screw threads in the annular body being such that, upon rotation of the lens tube for focusing, the other tube moves to an extent sufficient to adjust the range-finder mechanism to give the range corresponding to the actual focal length; of the objective in use. As shown, the annular member is threaded into the camera body 3 and has internal screw-threads which respectively co-operate with external screw-threads of different pitches on a tube 4, which carries an objective 5, and on a coaxial tube 6, which engages a roller 8 to adjust the camera rangefinding mechanism. The tube 4 has a pin 9 on its surface which rides in a helical slot 10 in the tube 6, the pitch of the helix being such as to modify the extent of the relative movement between tubes 4 and 6 and thereby compensate for the amount by which the actual focal length of lens 5 differs from the nominal focal length thereof.

    • 608,455. Photographic copying apparatus. MONTGOMERY, G. B. Feb. 25, 1946, No. 5743. [Class 98 (i)] Apparatus for adapting a miniature camera known under the Registered Trade Mark " Contax " to copying work comprises a thick flat plate 1 having a central circular orifice threaded at 2 so as to mate with the connecting spigot of objectives of miniature cameras known under the Registered Trade Mark " Leica "; a coupling ring 3, attached to the other face of the plate, having recesses formed in its inner surface which are engaged by dogs provided on " Contax " cameras for attaching its objective; and a tube 5 containing a focusing screen 7 at one end and having dogs 6 at its other end which engage the recesses in the coupling ring, the distance between the diffusing surface of the screen and the locating face of the dogs being equal to the distance between the dogs on the camera and the plane of the film. In use, the flat plate 1 is attached to a rigid support, a " Leica " objective is screwed into the orifice 2 and the focusing tube 5 is positioned by engaging the dogs 6 in the coupling ring. The image is brought to a focus on the screen 7 and the tube is then replaced by the camera and an exposure made.

    • 595,371. Lens mountings. MONTGOMERY, G. B. March 15, 1946, No. 4069/45. [Class 98 (i)] An adaptor for attaching objectives sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Contax " equipped with a bayonet-type fitting to cameras sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Leica " having an internally screw-threaded flange for the attachment of their own objectives and for adapting the coupled range-finder equipment of the camera to operate with the substitute objective, comprises (i) a coupling sleeve 1 which is screw-threaded externally at its rear end 2 to fit the lens-receiving flange on the camera, and which carries external projections 3 at its forward end to engage the bayonet catch 4 of the substitute lens mount, and a locating shoulder near the rear end which abuts against the front of the flange, and (ii) an inner sleeve 7, 7A free to rotate in the coupling sleeve but restrained from axial motion by a shoulder thereon held against a shoulder 8 on the coupling sleeve by a ring 9 secured therein, the end 7A of the inner sleeve projecting into the camera body and having a cam surface 10 engaged by the roller 11 of the camera range - finding gear. Focusing is achieved by rotating an external sleeve on the substitute objective, which sleeve engages a spring-loaded sleeve carrying at its inner end dogs 14 adapted to engage dogs 13 on the inner sleeve 7, thus causing this to rotate in step with the focusing sleeve and actuating through the cam 10 the range-finding gear on the camera. U.S.A. Specification 2,041,633 is referred to.
