The system uses an articulated coordinate measuring machine (CMM) (200) and a laser tracker (400) and a retroreflector (310, 312) making a pair with the laser tracker is disposed on the CMM. Since a measurement value by the CMM and a measurement value by the laser tracker can be converted into coordinate values in a common reference coordinate system, the CMM can be moved. Further a hidden point which cannot be measured by the laser tracker can be measured by the articulated CMM or the like.
