摘要： A vacuum interrupter having two contacts with co-operating contact-making parts each of which is constituted by a porous matrix of metal particles comprising chromium containing from 0.5 percent to 13.5 percent by weight carbon, or iron containing from 1.0 percent to 2.0 percent by weight carbon, metallurgically bonded together by compacting and heating under high vacuum, the interstices of the matrix being infiltrated under high vacuum with a metal which comprises copper or a copper alloy, and the infiltrated metal constituting between 10 percent and 40 percent of the volume of the infiltrated matrix. When the matrix metal is chromium the preferred range of the carbon content is 1 percent to 3 percent by weight of the matrix metal.

摘要： The specification discloses an electric circuit interrupting device in which the contacts are enclosed in an evacuated enclosure, and in which the contact material comprises a matrix of a low ductility semi-refractory metal infiltrated with a metal of high electrical conductivity. The metals are chosen so that during alternating current arcing (a) the loss of heat by vapourisation of the metals at the surface of a molten anode spot prevents the anode spot rising to a temperature at which substantial electron emission occurs, so that the ability to interrupt a high current arc at the next natural current zero is improved, and (b) precipitation alloying of the metals occurs, with consequent refinement of the matrix structure at the contact surface so that the performance of the interrupter is improved by conditioning of its contacts. Chromium and cobalt are specifically proposed as matrix metals, and copper, silver, and alloys of copper and silver are proposed as infiltrant metals.

摘要： An ion getter pump for providing a vacuum in a high power microwave discharge tube consists of a body of radio-active material which is arranged to act as the power source for the pump. The pump has a glass support base concentrically surrounding a cathode. Mounted within the tubular cathode is a layer of radio-active isotope material and a particle receiver from which extends an anode rod. Pins are fused through the base to support the cathode, the particle receiver and the isotope material. A shield is provided to prevent sputtering of material on to the base.

摘要： A dynamo electric machine which has a stator winding disposed in the rotor-stator air gap. The rotor winding comprises coils having straight axially extending side portions which are supported in trough members which have radially extending side walls the outer ends of which fit into slots in the stator core. The troughs may have cover plates also having side walls extending into the stator slots, and the troughs with the windings therein form a cylindrical structure in the air gap. This structure can be held in position closely adjacent the stator core by conformable packing or wedges associated with the side walls of the troughs and the stator slots.

摘要： The invention in this application relates to a control system for controlling the power or current in an H.V.D.C. link connected between two a.c. systems and is employed particularly to damp power oscillations developed in such systems which frequently occur after any large disturbances, such as a temporary line short circuit. In particular, the system includes apparatus for defining an output signal proportional to a change function of absolute phase angle phi of the alternating voltage in at least one of the a.c. systems, and a control circuit for controlling the converters in the d.c. link. The control circuit is responsive to a signal depending on both the output signal from the apparatus and a predetermined order signal whereby the d.c. link is controlled to have a component of variation proportional to the said change function.
