A process for applying a relief pattern to a former for use in dip-moulding comprises impinging an abrasive material on the parts of the former where it is desired to apply the impressions. The former may be made from porcelain, glass or metal, and the abrasive may be sand, alumina or metal shot. In particular the former may be made from glazed porcelain, the parts of the former which are not to be impinged are shielded by a mask of rubber or metal, and the impressions are applied by sand blasting at a pressure of 1¢ lb. per square inch to produce an unglazed portion. The relief pattern may comprise indicia. The former may be a shoe former or a glove former in which a shallow groove may be formed around the wrist portion thereof. The formers are used for moulding articles of vinyl polymers or copolymers which contain a major proportion of combined vinyl chloride.

Class 34 (ii) [Also in Groups II and VIII] In a power operated washing machine (see Group VIII) clothes and the like are dried, after centriguging, by tumbling in a horizontal perforated rotary drum 1 of polygonal section, an electric heater (not shown) being attached to the cabinet 5 of the machine adjacent a circular hinged and glazed loading door 56 which is left slightly open to admit a stream of heated air. The heater may be provided with a fan. The drum 1 may be triangular or square with truncated corners, or it may be pentagonal. The drum is secured to a shaft 7 mounted in bearings 8 and carrying a pulley 10 driven by an electric motor 15 through belts and pulleys.

[Class 83 (iii)] In an inserted blade milling-cutter, the blades 9 are secured in wedge-shaped slots 8 by transverse cotters 7, the axes of the cotter holes 5 and of the slots 8 being at a small angle to each other to provide the wedging action. The axis of each cotter hole is parallel to the axis of rotation and each slot is inclined at an angle a, which may provide all or part of the negative rake angle e. The wedge formation of each slot may be provided by both walls of the slot or the wall adjacent the cotter hole may be radial ; the bottom 10 of the slot is parallel to the axis of rotation. The cotters 7 have a flat tapering face inclined at the same angle a as the slots. The body has recesses 16 adjacent to each blade to permit the escape of chips and is slotted at 2 and 3 for securing to the driving-spindle by bolts passed through holes 4.

Printed matter is reproduced on the surface of an article made of a homo- or co-polymer of vinyl chloride by transfer from a temporary support member. Preferably, the vinyl chloride is sprayed with a plasticizer, e.g., diiso-octylphthalate, before applying the transfer. The latter may be paper printed with pigments such as carbon based pigments including Carbon Black, a mixture of Benzedene and Chrome Yellows, Phthalocyamine (Blue), a mixture of Carbon Black and Bronze Blue and Calcium Toner (Red). In a preferred embodiment of the invention the printed surface of the support member is contacted with the surface of an article composed of transparent plasticized vinyl polymer and after removing the support member a coating of a pigmented plasticized vinyl polymer is supplied to the printed surface of the transparent article and is then fully gelled e.g. through immersion in a glycerol bath. By selecting the appropriate pigments the background of the design reproduced can be varied over a wide range of colours to produce, for example, abrasion and corrosion resistant labels, particularly ring labels, bearing a title or name. The support member could be contacted with a pigmented plasticized vinyl polymer or copolymer and a transparent coating of plasticized vinyl polymers or copolymers applied thereto, but in that case the design on the support member is in mirror image of that required on the finished product. In the manufacture of a moulded plastic article such as a cloth preprinted transparent thin sections resulting from the application of the method of the present invention may be incorporated in the mould before introducing a curable resinous composition (or plastisol or rigisol in the case of plasticized resin dispersions) so that after curing of the resin (or gellation of plastisol) the transparent sections are bonded to the cured resin (or gelled plastisol). In this way all necessary legends or colours (e.g. lips or eyes on a doll) can be embodied in a shaped article in one operation and, further, be protected from abrasion by a transparent layer.

[Class 75 (ii)] In electric lighting apparatus in which the crown 1 of a reflector is detachably clamped between a rigid cap 8 and a spider 14, the latter screws up and down on the cap with the reflector when the latter is rotated. The spider 14 screws on to a stem 11 forming part of the cap 8. A screw 10 locks the spider in the clamping position. The reflector crown 1 is flanged inwardly and downwardly at 16 and 17, and has notches formed in the flanges so that, when the spider is in the lower position, the crown can be passed over the legs of the spider and brought into a position in which its rotation causes the spider to rotate. The lower part of the reflector may be integral with or detachably connected with the crown 1. Integral with the cap 8 is a wiring box 4.
