摘要： When an asynchronous digital signal is to be introcuced into another digital signal, there arises the fundamental problem of frequency adaptation. This problem is solved by stuffing. Another problem found with the usual suffing process is that the digital signal recovered by destuffing is affected by a low frequency jitter, the waiting time jitter. This waiting time jitter must be reduced. A stuffing process is disclosed which includes within each stuffing frame of the initial digital signal (B) the following steps. The mean level of the elastic memory (ES) is determined as precisely as possible. A difference between the real value and the prescribed value of the mean level, the level error (ff), is determined. The level errors are added and form the error sum (fs). The decision whether to stuff is made on the basis of the criteria that the error sum must be kept as constant as possible. For this purpose, an assessed value is calculated for the error sum in the following stuffing frame of the second digital signal (B) on the supposition that no stuffing will be carried out. This assessed value (fs + 2ff) is compared with thresholds and a value that indicates whether and to what extent stuffing will be carried out is determined on that basis. The invention relates to multiplexers and synchronizers.
