A suction cleaner comprises a casing consisting of two equally sized half shells 1, 2, which divide it solely in the direction of its longitudinal axis whilst transverse walls 4, 5, 6 are provided one being for the separation of motor and suction spaces M and S respectively, together with means for connecting the half shells 12 to each other and means to support the motor 37. The front and rear walls 4, 6 may carry or comprise the air suction inlet and outlet pieces 13 and 14 respectively, motor switch 26 and current supply cable 27. On an extension 22 of the air inlet connection piece 13 the dust bag 23 may be clamped by means of a spring loaded band clamp 25. The central separating wall 5 is connected to one of the shells and engages with an extension 30 of the carrying handle 31 fitted to the other shell in a force or positive locking manner to clamp the two half shells 1, 2 together so that they may be unclamped only by the deliberate release of a securing means 32. The motor unit 37 is located in a prefoamed polystyrol mounting 38 inset between projections of the casing which supports, insulates and dampens the vibrations of the motor 37.

    • 1,35,287. Vacuum-cleaner dust collector. E. FABER, R. D. HAHN, H. HAHN and E. WORWAG [trading as MAUZ & PFEIFFEN]. April 8,1965 [May 9, 1964], No. 14862/65. Heading B1T. [Also in Division E2] In a vacuum-cleaner dust collector comprising a paper bag enclosed by two halves of an outer bag, the halves of the outer bag are secured together by a closure means which extends along the abutting edges of the bag halves. The bag halves each comprise a U-shaped wire frame, hinged to the connection (5) and covered by a cloth web, and the tapes 7 of the closure means are stitched to the webs inwards of the frames. The closure means comprises hooks 11 in the form of open loops of elastic synthetic material on one tape 7 which co-operate with synthetic material thread loops 12 on the other tape 7. Hooks 11 engage loops 12 when the tapes are pressed together and are resiliently straightened to release loops 12 when the tapes are pulled apart. The tapes are shown. stitched to the inside walls of the bag halves, but alternatively one tape may be attached outside one bag half and the other secured to the other bag half of fold over and engage the first tape.
