    • A support device 1 suitable for use in providing support for writing or the like in a moving vehicle comprises a support panel 8 captively mounted, by coupling means, 12 to a base 10 so as to allow substantially free lateral displacement relative thereto from an equilibrium position. A resilient biasing means 14, 14b is provided for acting between said support panel 8 and base 10 so as to return said support panel 8 and base 10 from positions of relative lateral displacement towards said equilibrium position. In one embodiment (Fig 2), the coupling means comprises parallel spaced apart rails 20 on the upper surface of base 10 slidably connected by captive connectors 19 to parallel spaced apart rails 18 on the underside of support panel 8 disposed transversely of the base rails 20. In another embodiment (Fig. 4) the coupling means comprises four balls 40 sitting in cups 42. The resilient biasing means may comprise four helical coil springs 14, 14b connected between the support panel 8 and base 10.

    • 175,150. Globe Pneumatic Engineering Co., Ltd., Andrew, J. D., and Hughes, J. Dec 14,1920. Cooling liquids.-Heated water from an aircompressor or similar apparatus flows into a tun-dish 2, open at the top so that a certain amount of air is drawn in with the water, to effect a preliminary cooling thereof. The water then passes to an inverted tun-dish 4 and escapes through slots 10 therein, into a container 5, being deflected so as to pass up the inner face of the container and then falling through perforations 12 in a corrugated run 11. The container 5 is jacketed to provide for the circulation of cooling- water, which enters by a pipe 8 and escapes over the rim 9 of the jacket 6, mixing with the cooled water and falling in fine streams to a tank beneath the apparatus. The extended surface of the stream of water exposed to the air produces further cooling. A pipe 13 is provided for draining the inner container when necessary. In a modification, Fig. 4, the tun-dish 4 is divided into two portions 4 , 4b by a partition 4 . The liquid to be cooled is received in the lower portion 4 , passing through the slots 10 and up the passage 15, and cooling-liquid passes from the outer jacket 7 into portion 4a and overflows as in the other construction. A number of stepped rims may be provided at varying heights around the outer container 6 to break up the streams of water and to assist the cooling.
