Scarifiers or road-breakers. - Relates to machines for breaking up asphalt and other roads, and for digging trenches for laying pipes or conduits, by means of vertically falling cutting - tools, and consists in providing a wheeled truck 1 carrying hoisting - drums 3 for two cutters 11 which are attached to hammers 10 enclosed in laterally adjustable frames 5. To prevent disturbance of the adjacent road surface, pressure plates 15 are arranged to bear on the road at each side of the cutters. Cables 12, attached to the hammers 10, pass over pulleys 13, and are wound on the drums 3, which are loosely mounted on the shaft 3 driven from the engine 4, but are thrown into engagement for raising the hammers by a clutch lever 14. The frames 5 are laterally adjustable between crossbeams 6 by a right and left handed screw-bolt 8. The plates 15 are connected to vertically-guided lift-rods 16', operated from levers 19 adjustable on quadrants 20. The plates are held down by springs 18.

    • A filter assembly for removing filtrate from industrial process streams. The assembly includes a housing in which a filter element is disposed. The filter element has a surface against which the filtrate is trapped. A cleaning head to which cleaning blades are attached is disposed in the housing and removes the trapped filtrate. An actuator tube extends through the housing. Internal to the actuator tube is a first magnet. Pressurized gas is selectively applied to the ends of the actuator tube to move the first magnet in the tube. A second magnet is attached to the cleaning head. The second magnet is magnetically coupled to the first magnet so the second magnet moves with the first magnet. Thus, the movement of the first magnet is transferred by the second magnet to the clean head so the cleaning blades move against the filter element.
