[Class 26] A wash-hand basin particularly one of por celain - enamelled cast iron, is provided with a detachable shelf sup ported by a wall on the back of the basin anc by a part of the back wall projecting later ally of the wall and with means for fastening the shelf to the basin. The basin is formed with a ledge 11, Figs. 1 and 3, hollowed to form a soap-tray 12, and with a rear wall 15, formed into a central buttress 16, and provided with turned-over top edges 18 extending from each side to a point just above the soap tray 12. Between the edges 18 lies the shelf 19, engaging three projections 22, 23, 22 on the wall 15 and buttress 16, and provided with locating projections 28, 29 to lie against the projections 22, 23. The shelf is formed with a rim 20 and draining passage 21. It is held in position by a nut and a square headed screw 26, engaging a slotted U-shaped lug 25 on the shelf and passing through a lug 24 on the basin.

The bottom wall e of the pocket is preferably formed with an uprising lip f having a channel g for drainage purposes while the upper edge b of the rear wall c is of bulbous section and is situated in the position that would otherwise be occupied by the overturned portion of the roll edge.

[Class 26] In a sink, bath, &c. having below the bottom thereof a drainage chamber 12 having an outlet 14 above which is disposed a removable strainer 22, the outlet is provided with a plug 24 having an operating-stem extending through and movable within the strainer, the latter being so arranged within the chamber as to leave sufficient space to accommodate the plug in the open position. The chamber 12 may have an extension 17 in which the waste-pipe 15 is secured in position by a flange 18 and an external nut 20 ; the extension communicates with the waste-pipe by apertures 29 and also with the overflow. The plug may be supported in its raised position by a bayonet-joint arrangement, and the depth of the chamber 12 is one-and-a-half times that of the strainer. A grating 30 disposed above the apertures 29 is also provided.

The piston is constituted by a flexible washer 9a, or is provided with a non- return valve 10, the arrangement being such that the valve has a rapid upward and slow downward movement. A valve cage 3 is provided.

Multiple-way valves. -A valve arrangement for supplying hot or cold water or a mixture thereof either to a bath or basin comprises hot and cold water stop valves 2 and 3 respectively and a pair of piston valves comprising cup-washers 9 on spindles 10 operable by raising or lowering the knob 6. Water enters from the stop valves through ports 16; with the pistons in the positions shown it passes through the piston barrels, ports 17 and the basin tap 7. On raising the piston rods the ports 17 are masked and the flow is directed to the bath tap 8. The hot and cold systems are separated by partitions 13 and 18 so that mixing does not take place until the streams approach the outlets. Each piston spindle 10 may be provided with a separate knob so that they may be independently operated.

[Class 26] [Also in Group X] A bath having depending Side panels has. means for attaching together a side panel and an end panel which comprise a lug on each panel having a surface disposed inwardly of but parallel with the plane of the panel to which it appertains, a bracket having surfaces adapted to engage respectively said surfaces of the lugs, and means securing the bracket and each of the lugs so as to permit independent adjustment. Preferably the bracket is secured to each of the lugs by a screw and slot connection. In Figs. 4, 5 a cast iron bath has side panels 6, 7 made of enamelled steel with inturned flanges 20 to which L-shaped lugs 21 are bolted near the top and bottom. Each pair of lugs is bolted adjustably to brackets 22. The curved comer piece 18 consists of an upper corrugated part 30 held in place by the strip 9 and a lower securing part 31 bolted to a lug 27 formed on the lower bracket 22.
